Title: The Death of Stalin
Post by: Captain Blood on 22 October 2017, 08:19:59 AM
Saw this last night. Absolutely brilliant. Hilarious and horrifying at the same time. The blackest of black comedies, and with a cast of completely wonderful actors wringing every delicious drop from their hideous characters.
Loved it. Highly recommended.

Good film, Iannucci potrays the fear, bitterness & backbiting of Uncle Joe's court brilliantly. Yes, it may have a few factual innaccuracies (none big enough to derail the film), but it's a comedy film - not a documentary (it's also fantastically funny) - if you like your comedy with a side order of bleakness & absurdity you will not be dissapointed.

I'd love to see this. Ironically it's been airbrushed from my local cinema's website after the advance screenings. Very strange, but that's Cornwall for you!

I am a big fan of Armando Iannucci but had not heard of this one being in the works. Great news! And it seems indeed to be a star cast: Jeff Tambour, Paul Whitehouse, Steve Buscemi...

And "Hello to Jason Isaacs"!

He (Isaacs) was brilliant. Stole the movie - and he's not in it until over halfway through!

Quite eager to see it - I've heard nothing but good things.

Saw loads of adverts on the tube last week but only just watched the trailer on the basis of this thread. It looks brilliant. I like the fact that they've just gone "Russian accents, nah fuck it". L

That's a good move. Fake Russian has a tendency to make the whole shebang appear contrived.

Sean Connery?

Yes, my view too. I think it would detract from the performances too.

Sean Connery?

In his Russian "shubmarine"!

Or as an Egyptian Spaniard.

Or an Irish American?

But "The Untouchables" isn't really a good example. That's one of two movies I've seen where he does actually try and do an accent. I reckon he thinks he can do Irish, because he does it in "The Longest Day" and if you listen carefully in "The Untouchables" he is giving his normal voice a very slight Irish twang.

I am looking forward to seeing this film. Just don't know where it is playing in the US. Or did I miss it already?
