I just got an email with some great news from Perry Miniatures regarding their Mafeking miniatures:
”We're receiving quite a few enquires about the Mafeking figures so we're going to sort them out into proper boxes. This will take a few weeks, but if you can wait we will announce them on our website as well as TMP when they are ready.
All the best
Alan”

Now that is excellent news for once! :)
-
More of a relief, I'd say................... lol
-
Yah I sent a request as they can be used for BCW 1938 as civilians :D
-
Excellent - that took a while (asked about these when they were first shown). Good news.
-
Perry have sold them for £1 each for some time but then you got a random selection. Nice that you now will know what you get. I will use them for the Irish troubles, and as Freikorps opponents.
I saw another interesting news on the Anglian Miniatures Yahoo Group. There was a photo of new greens "Headless Militia". Irregulars with loose heads: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/anglianminis/photos/album/1453690477/pic/153801245/view?picmode=&mode=tn&order=ordinal&start=1&count=20&dir=asc

I got the exact same e-mail last night
-
Good god, does that mean I can finally get the Protectorate Regiment?!?!
-
Here's hoping the sales will be encouraging and they'll make a few more bits and pieces for South Africa....
-
That is awesome news. Not good for the wallet, though...
::)
-
Any new info on this post?
-
Check the Perry site. They are for sale now. 6 codes of 6 miniatures each, but some are doubles they said.

No Protectorate Regiment :'(

It does seem rather bizarre. They've gone to the trouble of designing, sculpting and then casting these figures and then they don't put them on sale :?
Maybe if we enough people badger them a bit, they might release them.
Surely they would be decent sellers and would make the fellas a good profit?
I could certainly use these gunners and infantry in shirt-sleeves and slouch hats too:

Still, the armed civilians, both black and white, will come in very useful, so there's still plenty to smile about :D

I ordered 6 packs from them last week, waiting delivery :-* :P
Now some of those figures on their display are definately conversions (the gunners certainly are) from their old Foundry ACW range. I used them myself when I had Boer/Brit armies

Yes, I see what you mean. I'm tempted to get a pack of those, although with Foundry's silly P&P charges, I might have to wait until I can get some at a show :(

I really like these and wanted to get some to mix with some of the First Corps cape wars Brits (for VSF actually....but perhaps they could equally well serve for Boer war?). Does anybody have any thoughts on how well the two might mix or any pics showing a comparison. I'm not really too fussy about these things unless they really are too different.

I'm sure someone else has plans to use these as a kind of Militia or Fencible unit.
There should be a thread somewhere mentioning it. They wouldn't really do for historical Boer War gaming , but I reckon they'd be great as militia etc for VSF and what have you.
I have a couple of 1st Corps sample figures half-painted somehere. If no-one beats me to it I could try and set up a comparison pic with Foundry and Perry colonials.
-
Irritatingly I bumped into Michael Perry today, but I was in a massive rush, otherwise I'd have asked about the Protectorate Regiment.
-
I have some of the 1st Corps figures you mentioned. I would say that height wise they are similar to Perry. The style is just somewhat different where the 1st Corps have more character. I would though mix them without hesitation.
-
Where can I find some pics of the Perry's Mafekin Minis???
-
Until they get pictures up in the catalog this is probably your best bet:

Reviceived 30 of the Perry Mafeking figures today, they are very nice. You do get repeats but I am busily converting with head swaps etc for my 3rd platoon of militia for BCW3 :D
I will get some photos of the figures both unconverted and those converted later.
You can use some for pulp and interwar period very easily and will make a nice militia unit for VSF with no modifications

Looking forward to it :)

Lovely work. May I ask where you obtained the weapons and tools for your conversions?
