Title: WWII RPG- Wargame Combo
Post by: hayeswauford on 29 October 2017, 03:51:50 PM
Has anyone tried something along the lines of putting the players in the role of RPG characters in a WWII firefight but making that part of a larger engagement/typical skirmish game?

I'd like to have players acting as squad and platoon or company commanders against a GM opponent. However, their ability to interpret the battle and react will be more limited and use the RPG test/react format.

Just a thought for now curious what's been done by others. Thank you!

I often run historical games in an RPG format, with all the players on one side and the others run by umpire(s). It is a very simple way to implement hidden movement and also enforce a proper command structure.

Id be a bit hesitant to make them roll dice to do things though, a "team" of players is quite chaotic enough. In Science VS Pluck, the players have "characteristics" (e.g. Quick to anger) which let's the players ham it up a bit and play in character.

Thank Martin! I like the idea of a backstory for the players a lot.
