Title: what 1/56th experimental WW2 kit would folks be interested in?
Post by: CompanyB on April 09, 2009, 09:02:35 PM
Not to Give anything away...  But I have a couple of commissions in progress for some 1946 Era German kit for a client.  That got me thinking on our current lineup for Company B.  With the M-24 Chaffee, we essentially have a tank that bridges WW2 and the Korean War.  It's likely that in any Weird War or AE WW2 Scenario, the Chaffee and it's variants would be outfitting US recon and HQ units.

What other American or British experimental vehicles would folks be interested in?  No German vehicles please...  That's for another thread!

A few years ago, before Company B, I did have a kit of the American T-28 that I offered.  It's another possiblity...

Here it is next to a 1/50 Solido Sherman:

Ideas:

M-24 Chaffee, upgraded  (HVAP 76mm gun (same gun used in the M50 supersherman)
M-37 Chaffee based version of the M7 Priest
T-77  AA version of the Chaffee with an enclosed turret with 5 .50 cal MG's
finish that darn Stuart Walker

I'd love to have a T-28.

Britain's Centurion, perhaps?

I'll second the Centurion, WW2 versions were still in use in the 1970's.

FoA is already making a suitable Centurion...

I've been thinking about the Tortoise...  Though I'd need some small British tanks to back it up!

There is also this Beast that the US Command considered:

The M6A2E1

you know, if the Germans are starting to use Anti-Tank Guided Missiles, it follows that the US and the Russians would probably capture/copy some, eh?  Perhaps an American Halftrack, with a German Anti-Tank missile rack?  An Anti-Tank missile rack that can be mounted on a Sherman, or a Stuart?  More developed Sherman Calliope?  T69 Multiple Gun Motor Carriage- Greyhound with a quad-.50 in a Maxon Mount?  More Developed Sherman "Skink"?  Greyhound with an Anti-Tank missile rack?

The nicest looking tank (well tank destroyer) ever made IMHO
The German E-10.

I'd love to see the T-28, plus an accompanying Big Tank from the German side, in 1/56 to duke it out. And of course, I remain perpetually interested in getting the Walkers produced...

1/56 is indeed the established scale for 28mm minis.
Are you serious about the P-1500 or P-1000 land cruiser? :o
You are aware how big these are in 1/56???

 ;)
It would be even bigger in 1/56! I seriously doubt that it would be able to sell!

We should also all re-read the 1st posting from Brent. Quote: "No German vehicles please"

I can only recommend FoA. Very good models and great service.
But I have to agree that it is royal pain to not have pics on their site!

Agis, Thanks for the pictures of the FoA vehicles, all I can say is very nice vehicles and very nice painting! I have been enjoying wandering about your site having a look :)

I was not aware FoA even existed, which is a shame for me as I saw they make Panhard AML 60?s and 90?s, which I have wanted for a wee while now but didn?t think were in production I could use them as is and I think they would double up as an Eland or just take a little modification to make them spot on.

This is why I love LAF, there is always something new to look at and want to buy  :D

Black Prince and Conqueror tanks for the Brits please :)

Wasn't the A43 Black Prince basically a ?Super-Churchill? prototype?
(Churchill VII  replacing the 75mm tank gun with a 17 pdr. Gun)
So why not a simple conversion? Or was the turret that different?

A bit different in the hull and details (longer and wider hull, extra set of roadwheels etc.). Different turret too (plus mantlet cover).

A great thread here:

Greetings

vehicles doesn't mean solely tanks, right??

I'm still looking for good choppers for Vietnam Scenarios. So I wouldn't mind different helicopters.
Now speaking of *weird* war, what about some "early" helicopters-type vehicles ? Something the Engineers could have bolted together at around the same time they built those "alternate Powersuites" from other Weird/Alternate WW Games.

Oh, and I thank for the links posted. I just browsed the informations available for the P-1000. That would be a kind of *Monster* indeed. But if one of those would be made, I can't say I wouldn't buy it. So, there.

But I would still be interested in UH-1B's or H-1C's :P

Wow...that would be one big tank.  Perhaps $1000 per kit?  Just think how much mold material it would require to cast it?!  Perhaps a van form model...

The Reason for no German tanks in the thread is, that quite frankly... I'm already working on a few of them! So I wanted to give the allies something to even the odds a little...

All very good suggestions though!   The Black Prince would be an option, since it is just a new turret.  though I'd probably have JTFM market that one if I built one.

What about other axis tanks?  Japanese?
