Title: My first western building
Post by: flatpack on 12 December 2017, 03:50:17 PM
All
Was given this by a mate that no longer wanted this western building.
It’s a battle flag mdf sheriffs office and jail.
Nice to build and fun to paint.
Hopefully using it at Has.been’s place this coming Saturday on a “Dracula’s America” game.

Should be able to get quite a few scenarios out of one Sheriff's office, John Wayne got at least 3 films out of his.
As usual for you recently, excellent work.

So we actually used the building for the first time yesterday morning.

We used the Dracula’s America rules for a bit of a street fight.

We had 3 groups of 4 figures each. The towns people, trying to protect the town. The cow hands just looking for a fight after a few deserved beers, and the outlaws, just looking to let off some steam, after finding the bank was closed for the day.  lol

Here, the cow hands line up against the outlaws, then as soon as the dice start rolling, everyone runs for cover without a shot being fired. Typical wargaming as we don’t all want to die in move one and end up with an early bath.

Now the towns people appear, and once again, pile into cover, wondering just what’s going on ?
(https://s19.postimg.cc/6w0fxads3/6_F4084_BE-_C18_A-449_B-9597-_E7_FB933_FC749.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/dz8bcwj7j/)

The outlaws take cover in the large green house whilst half the cow hands try to sneak up on them.

Carefully does it as the cow hands sneak behind the white store....

The lower part of the town, round the sheriffs office seems quiet, but what’s that green mist in the old graveyard off in the distance ?
(https://s19.postimg.cc/rswo1uwcj/20_F9_EC3_B-_F34_C-4_C5_B-9_CEA-8_C9_DE1_E9_D7_C3.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/6j91r0g1r/)

But then the green mist has gone again..
(https://s19.postimg.cc/3p5wdsbdf/F42_FB05_E-9511-4_FCC-_A629-4834363_BF262.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/eor3pe1sf/)

The shooting continues, but the outlaws are taking a pounding from the cow hands and the townspeople, even to the stage where one outlaw goes down under the gunfire, only to be laid into by one of the townspeople for a good kicking..
(https://s19.postimg.cc/bhwk5tesj/04_ADFF38-_F762-4750-_A566-_F47_FCA3_AE603.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/umztfktgf/)

Cowhands turn up everywhere, blasting away at the outlaws, but sometimes pay the price for being too keen.
(https://s19.postimg.cc/o9aqcb1f7/A3_F09484-3_F7_F-4914-_BE83-78969066_D747.jpg) (https://postimg.cc/image/gtbgqidpr/)

A cracking shot from the cowhand downs one of the townspeople, narrowly missing a couple of tied up horse.

But hold on, it’s that daft green mist again, and it’s drifted over from the graveyard...what the heck are that lot ? Oh heck here come the undead, just when we were having a good old shot um up. Better join force to keep them at bay.

Then the green smoke disappears to show the sheriffs office is still not manned. Looks like a bad day for the sheriff to be out of town.

Ah, so this is where the undead came from...

All in all a really fun game that was played with a smile on our faces, as it should be.
And because it was a western, these two might have added to making the smiles a little wider.

Many thanks to Has.been for being a great host, and to Vodkafan and Garry for rolling the dice and playing the game in the right spirit.

I hope you all enjoy this little write up.

Brilliant!
A wonderful AAR full of great eye candy.
 :-* :-*

Those buildings all look wonderful, really well painted and weathered.
 8) 8)

Good to see someone else using the pencil sharpeners too.
Thanks for posting.

As you say, nice to see someone else using covered wagon pencil sharpeners.
I can never see the point myself  lol

Amazing terrain and BatRep!

The tones, shading and drybrushing on the terrain looks spectacular, there is so much colour in each terrain piece, gorgeous work Flatpack!!  :-*  :-*  :-*

The green mist looks terrifying, :o The zombie Confederates and ghost summoner only confirm that its a terrifying event!

I'm looking forward to more pictures like those!

Cheers
Matt

Gents
I’m just reporting the game.
Ok a couple of the buildings are mine, but the set up and most of the scenery belong to Has.Been. He needs to take the glory for that. As you say he has a real eye for detail and colouring.
The zombie Rebs are his too along with the graveyard set up.
I just turn up with a couple of buildings and my iPad to take the photos, but the fun comes when the dice start rolling.

It was a group effort, we all put something into the mix, not just scenery & figures, but also
Laughs, playing for fun, taking the mickey etc. etc.

One query none of us could find the answer to in the rules though, it hints that it is possible to recover from 'shaken',
not unexpected as it does explain how to recover from (the worse result of) 'down' BUT
we could not find anything about recovering from shaken.
Any of you guys have an answer?

It did not derail the game, as we made up a local rule, just would like to know what we missed.

It's games like this that make the Old West one of my favourite periods. Love your table and figures, the green mist (and what comes out of it) is memorable, and the liquid refreshments are just what they should be. Stunning job all round!  :-*

An excellent looking table there, especially like the buildings and the picket fences are a very nice touch.
I've just made some and never thought to paint them white, looks better than aged wood I think as it adds a bit of colour.
