Hello all
Here I´am back with another project. Yes another... :D
Just a small one this time (or at least i think so).
The Jewish revolt of AD 66-74 who saw Vespasian and Titus is son walking on Galilee and crushing another series of rebellions from the jewish people.
There is very scarse information regarding the jewish army/warriors so i´m basing my info mainly on Osprey campaign 252 - THE JEWISH REVOLT AD 66-74, tv series MASADA and very few images on google so if anyone has some feel free to participate on this thread. ;)
My plan is to make a small force of 10 to 15 figures of jewish fighters to ambush small roman patrols.
So, without more crap here is my first attempt of a leader or a zealot equiped with leather as protection and a stolen roman gladius.
Head from West Wind, body from victrix romans and some green stuff.
He is not finished yet but wip is advanced.
Your opinions and info are welcome and hope you enjoy reading and seing the photos/conversions/painting.
Cheers all

Rui,
Very good Zealots can be made by combining the bodies of the old Wargames Factory Ancient Light Infantry, with their Ancient Germans. In fact when WF was still running, they actually sold a "mash up" set to do just that.
Nick
-
Nick do you mean the Numidians box?
If so i couldnt get none unfortunately. :(
A friend gave me 4 bodies and i used them for my roman gangs.
-
Yep, the Numidian box. They are indeed getting hard to track down.
-
Nice, look forward to seeing more.
-
Interesting "side" project Rui, I'm sure you will be soon doing more than just groups of 10 to 15 per side :)
-
I suggest the numidian infantry set from Victrix for the bodies and for heads I would go for their peltasts
-
I like the idea and the transformation, I think that it is very easy, and is very suitable to find new uses to the Numidians and Mahdist.
I will copy it! Great armour.
Keep on posting images
-
Waiting for sicarians ;)
-
Thank you for the ideas and kind words. :)
If any of you have excess of numidians and madhist i´m oppened to trades or buying some. :)
Just pm me and we sort out.

You need a bunch of young guys chunking rocks. Big one and little one, some with slings, some bare-handed. Rocks were and remain a cheap and plentiful weapon in Judea. A fundamental Zealot tactic was to get up on top of some inaccessible building or landform and throw rocks. The rebels were mostly not skillful or enthusiastic about close combat.

Can't say I blame them I doubt I'd wanted to face a well trained Roman soldier with a big shield, armour and a Gladius up close either. ;)

There is an Osprey,The Bar Kokhba war.Peter Connelly's The Jews at the time of Christ, would be worth a look.
-
I haver that osprey too Gostgost. :)
Finished the conversion of the first figure and almost finished a second (Askellad this one is for your joy). ;)
Pictures soon.
-
Can't wait!

Great idea Rui.
Pictish figurines are a must for zealot ambushers/conspirators...

Indeed they are Eric. :)
Here are the first 2 conversions finished.
The first is already introduced and the second is a thracian body from Lucid Eye and a head from a GB plastic arab plus cloak sculped and dagger glued on the left hand. He is intended to be a Sicari. :)
-
great.
your are nearly in the assassin's creed world with that guy
-
The deadly looking chap with two blades wins the day! :-*
-
Wow! :o
Really impressed! Especially since I was just trying some conversion today. This stuff (the green as well as doing it) is really difficult. I was trying to convert some old Wargames Factory Dark Age Warriors into Late Roman sailors with floppy hats and sagum. After a few of those, I had to put them down... let's just say it's a good thing the hats are, um, floppy.
So I come on here and see some really fine conversion work and I can appreciate it how much effort it is after trying to do it myself today.
Cheers!
-
Thank you Richard. :)
-
Well, after almost a year i got to this project again.
Lets see if i finish it... ::)
The converted figures finally painted.
-
Cool work on these fellows. I'm lined up to do some Jewish revolt after my Romans, too :) It is a fun project
-
Thanks Wiegraf. Looking forward to see yours. :)
Finaly i got some free time and the mood to do some more conversions.
5 more to the gang. They dont look much now but they will after painting. :D
I wanted some to have looted roman equipment.
-
OMG those jews are revolting! :p
Get it? - I'll show myself out.
Bad jokes aside those are some fine conversions, great effects with relatively little sculpting required. You seem to have an eye for kitbashing :)
Have you considered the Perry plastic Mahdists? I've seem them used for all sorts of things, including dark age Irish.
-
Thank you Munindk. :)
Yes i´ve considered Perry Mahdists but i dont have any and i already have other figures so untill i end the ideas with what i have i wont buy others for this project. ;)
-
Love the guy with the face covering and cloak. Very cool conversion!
-
Haha, I am afraid mine will not really make use of so many cloaks and head wraps. I'm going for more the poor skirmishers / common person and not so much the Zealot / sicarii look. I'll have a unit of camels in there though.
Will be sharing when I get to around it. Cheers!

I would be heavily influenced by the People's Front Of Judea for my figures if I did this project...would have to have some women disguised with fake beards and one carrying a sick donkey on her shoulders..

That may happen yet James... ;D
Easy E and Wiegraf, thank you.
I will want to see those camels... :D
-
Damn!!
Another year as passed and only this update. :?
2 more figures.
1 caesarian roman as it is and a converted thracian. Cloack sculpted and head from West Wind plus sword removed and spear placed.
-
time is running fast my dear.
;)

Looking good, particularly the vertical stripe paintjob
Cheers

A little tip :
For those who haven't a good feeling about painting stripes the best thing to do is to dig stripes in the tunic with a cutter. In plastic it's easier but it's work too on metal.
So You won't need to paint the black border line on each side of the stripe, the paint or the wash over will do it for you ;) ;) ;)
Cheers
