Title: Don's Big Dungeon
Post by: DonVoss on December 25, 2017, 10:21:24 AM
I builded quite a few dungeons over the last years. Small and transportable, some more 2D, sketchy ones and kind of more ornate...
Some with grid and some more frestyle with measuring.

This november I had a multiplayer coming a head and I needed a new dungeon...I feld....:)

In my leadmountain I found 6 modules of ZITERDES Dunkelstadt dungeon.
I took these as  basis or my new Big Dungeon.

M goal was to build something like the old colourfull dugeons of the late 80s...like in WD100.
A kind o comic aproach...;)

Here is first Dunkelstadt module.

And with some paint on...:)

And a WIP pic of a few selfmade things...

Ill try to translate a few more things over the next days...:)

Stay tuned....:D

Cheers,
Don

Great start there. Your painting style of the scenery reminds me of the old 'Eavy Metal team (That's a good thing)

Love the dungeon stuff.

You say the small parts are build brick by brick.
Do you have a tutorial on making it look so good?

Or some tips at least?

Thanx gents....:)

@Brick by brick
I have no good tips or tricks to offer, sorry.
I just cut a few not so regulary styrofoam bricks and squeze them a little in my hand with a little sand added.

There is a kind of step by step in my border reivers thread:

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=103907.0

Just try it out yourself...its not that hard...and it looks great.....;)

Okay...on with the dungeon....;)

First a big guy....Reaper Bones Giant. I really like that model.

The next thing was a ice room I made.
1 or 2 yetis will defend him.
Totally stupid I know... ;D :o

And a snapshot of the rooms so far.

Well, since I was mostly woundering how you got the irregular worn shapes, that was probably all I needed to know. Thanks.

You're dungeon is coming around lovely. Woderfull project.
Very tempting to make my own.

Some lovely looking stuff in here.  I also like the thread title.  I can see an animated neon road sign "DON'S BIG DUNGEON: Finest Dungeoneering in the State" stuck in the middle of the woods near a murky looking cave entrance.

Thank you gentlemen for your comments....:)

Here are a few additional things for my dungeon.

Since my old Warhammer days I was always in love with these undead minis from GW.

...and I needed a few more corridors.

(http://i.imgur.com/zhJEQbrl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/zhJEQbr')

And some end pices, to ahm end the corriddors...;)

And every oldschool dungeon needs a loo... lol

Plumpsklo! I really like your dungeon. Nice textures, fantastic walls (what's the height of these?), and lots of variety.
And yes - that Graveguard has always been great - I love the helmets and how the cloth connets with them in particular.

Don, could you write a few words about how you paint your tiles and walls, greys and colorfuls both? I prefer this lighter, "cartoony" look to the usual mechanicus grey / cold grey / fortress grey combos. Thanks!

I only just noticed this and it looks really good :D The ice room is brilliant. It may be worth partially icing a corridor piece as a lead-in to the room.

Hopefully there's more still to come

Thank you for the encouraging comments....:)

Okay, here are some more pics and how I made the tiles.

First I sketch the grid...

(http://i.imgur.com/purHz1Wl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/purHz1W')

Then I try to get some live in with a ballpen or pencil....

(http://i.imgur.com/Cbw3hjZl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/Cbw3hjZ')

And thats pretty much it.....:)

So I tried to build a hall with some more open space to fight in.

The brbarian stuff is again from grendel.

(http://i.imgur.com/5CMXUsMl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/5CMXUsM')

And here is the floor thing (no walls) from pic one together with a premade Dunkeltadt module from Ziterdes.

(http://i.imgur.com/Z8gMXPgl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/Z8gMXPg')

I can put wallless room under the otehr rooms to get a little them elevated...
...kind of a 3D-feeling

(http://i.imgur.com/n3eF0wLl.jpg) (http://'https://imgur.com/n3eF0wL')

Hope to get some more stuff translated over the next days....;)

What material do you use for the floors? Looks like a sheet of foam. Personally I'm currently working with Styrofoam but the stuff you're using looks better.
Title: Re: Don's Big Dungeon
Post by: DonVoss on February 08, 2018, 11:30:26 PM
Its a kind of styrofoam too.
As I understand it, there are different kinds of styrofoam. The blue one I use is pretty expensive but has a good "memory"...if you crave something in it will stay. The pink styrofoam I use has a more diffuse memory. If you stick something in, it will somehow pop a little back. If you pick deeper, it gets little crackss on the way....

...I hope that makes some sense....:)

Cheers,
Don
