Hi guys,
One of the things I do around the new year is set up my yearly wargamers challenge. The object of the challenge is to paint more Miniatures then you buy, with a secondary goal of painting 365 models in the year (at least)
We keep count in model-equivalents in a word doc. File. Essentially, each model is worth a specific amount of points depending on size and possibly complexity. The scaling is open ended to encourage fellow painters to think about what they are painting.
For example, for 20-28 scale Miniatures (I differentiate my lists by scale)
Regular and orc sized infantry count as 1
Cavalry count as 2 due to ridden beast
Ogres count as 2 due to size
Chariots count as 5 due to number of Miniatures and complexity
Etc.
So, who is with me in 2018? We can use this thread for motivational banter and project talk. All scales and genres welcome

In the 7 years I have tracked my progress I have never come close to 365 28mm painted. One year I managed 245 which due to the huge number of horse would have come close to your threshold. Sadly that year was an aberration. This year in the Army Painter 2017 I barely managed 30 of the 50 I intended (and I still need to post pictures). Sigh.
Best of luck in your endeavors though!

I made 770 20-3m figs so far this year, plus a whole bunch of 6mm. Still 2 days left ;D

"More than last year" is best i can manage.
I think this year, with age creeping up on my eyes, instead my new years resolution is to complete one major project. Choosing and sticking to one is the thing though...

While I can respect that, I'm in the camp of "strive to do more"

Only a few days left till the new year.
Will no one step up to the plate?
So I am in
We few, we happy few. :D
Who will join this Band of Brothers. :)
Remember, what ever happens,
Don't give up the ship. lol

I thought I was...

This sounds very much like "The Pledge" on TMP. Here I will count differently as for The Pledge I count 1 figure as 1 and Horse and rider as 1 regardless of scale.
So for all that I'm in.

Don't think I can participate in the first part - pretty sure I've bought all the miniatures I'm EVER going to need (not that there aren't a few hoped for items, just no one making them to my knowledge).
On the second half, yeah, I'd like to surpass 365 figures for the year and since I work in 15 mm and settle for 'acceptable' paint jobs, it is doable. Just not always accomplished.
So, my goal:
finish off painting my French and Indian War collection
paint enough American War of Independence figures to run a game
paint enough Old West figures to run a game
paint all of my Africa critters (96 African Cape Buffalo alone)
paint all of my North America critters
paint all of my domestic farm animals
and have all finished figures properly based on textured bases
get started on painting victorian era colonial figures
If I do all of that, I'll far exceed 365 figures.
Now, how many times has that first goal topped the list, three years running, is it? o_o >:( :D ;D ;) lol
Oh, and all of the above has to compete with my desire to make major progress on my model railroad! :-I

Awesome, I'll be glad to see progress here In the thread.
Counts start circa 52 minutes ago! Let's do this

I'm in.

Does scenery count?

Interpret and come up with an adequate number based on scale and complexity.

I had not seen this before. Over the years I have set myself annual targets based on a "project" (seen in various threads) but never actually counted the annual total of figures, monsters, vehicles, aircraft etc.
This might be fun. Do I place the totals and/or photos in this thread or in individual threads by subject/period?
In 2017 the big projects were Lord of the Rings http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=103053.msg1279909#msg1279909 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=103053.msg1279909#msg1279909) Zombies (Project Z initially now Akulas Rules) and Conan http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=103754.msg1310346#msg1310346 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=103754.msg1310346#msg1310346)

I keep track in a word doc and post my totals as I go.
Again, large monsters and such are worth varying amounts of model equivalents
-
So, decided to get the New Year off to a good start.
Today I laid a a little over a half mile of cork for my model railroad - no seriously. Well, okay, in N-scale that works out to 18' or 17 1/2' for the half mile. But most of you don't care about that. ::)
I did work on a unit of French and Indian War Provincials, 18 more figures moving forward. And then I worked on 36 pronghorn antelope for my Old West set-up. :D
Now if I can only keep up the momentum!
-
Well I don't see myself painting a large number of figures in 2018, but I do see myself finishing some large terrain projects, finishing some very large vehicle models and converting/building something else quite large.
-
I'm on the board. Naiad complete!

Well I started off the New Year by painting an Afghan hill tribe chieften on new years day. I have finished painting the horses for some winged hussars & almost have the riders painted. I track my progress on my profile signature.

Sounds cool. Any photos?

to paint more Miniatures then you buy
I surely need this sanity test! So count me in in this respect.
I've ordered some minis via various Kickstarters. Paid yesteryear, will arrive this year. How do we count them in this challenge?
a secondary goal of painting 365 models in the year (at least)
I've never painted more than about 100 minis in a year, and with more kids, I've got even less time. Then again, I've got a bunch of 15mm for an army project, and the test figures painted much faster than my typical 28mm. So perhaps there's hope... If 15mm counts as one...
I think I've painted six minis this year already. Four 28mm on foot, two 15mm animals (elk & pony).
I've planned to make a thread of my painting here, and this will be a good time to start.
-
I count 15mm the same as 28mm for my counts, I usually have several projects in both scales going on my painting table at the same time. just finished up some 28mm pirates & have a few more to go. Finished some 15mm Polish renaissance cavalry & have some foot to go with them on the table now. Also some 28mm zombies & survivors & a 15mm Gaulic chariot on the table too.

A whole day at home - snow falling so started work on the "Jason and the Argonauts" project.
The Argo from a resin hull base bought years ago in a box of "seconds", card, paper and tinfoil.
How many points for the ship?

10 or fifteen, depending on intricacy. Is that ram freehand?
-
I was looking for this thread a while back. I'm in, although I'm aiming to complete a modest 100 this year. I'm at 27 so far with 4 more near completion. However as this is my big holiday in the year I won't be progressing much after this. :(

Thanks. I assume that you mean the ram on the sail? If so it is a modified version of a ram's head logo I found on the internet. #

OK I will sign up for this. The 365 target is not a serious goal for me but I certainly would like to paint more than I buy for once. I will make note and start adding it to my profile or something.

Glad to have you aboard

I count similarly with my yearly goal, but I reduce „painting points“ for smaller scales. So it‘s 1/2 point for 15mm infantry etc.
Paint more than buy has worked reasonably well in recent years, and I include sales and trade offs.
However I don‘t seem to be able to reach much more than 200 painting points on the year, inclusive terrain. And it usually takes a strong push in december to do so. Even with a big project with a simple, basic paintjob (NKE) I didn‘t come close to 365.
Hats off to anyone reaching one miniature per day, while I will try to reach my much smaller goal again in 2018.
-
Pretty sure I won't paint more this month.

Not pictured are ten repainted Crossbowmen and some progress with a house row. I might open a thread to present the models more closely and tell some stories of them. Very unfocused when it comes to games, so mainly painting what I fancy.
So how would you point these models, according to the challenge system presented in the opening post?
-
I'll try to get a photo up but for January I painted 14 points of First Nation figures from Pulp Miniatures for their Flint & Feather game.
-
No photo since bases not textured yet, but painted 36 pronghorn antelope (Irregular miniatures 15 mm) for my old west/plains/apache wars collection in January. Same models will be used for various gazelles in Africa - 48 tommies, 24 grants, 24 impalas.
The painting table is very busy so far this year. Closing in on finishing several French and Indian War units, too. And tinkering with my Old West freight cars - modified Peter Pig flat cars into cattle cars, tanks cars, and gondolas.
May the painting winds stay at my back and propel me ever forward.

Amen to that!

I just spent most of my holiday sitting around in New Zealands most unloved city but I have managed to produce some infantry for the Back of Beyond so 11 points so far.
