Will build a looted moving stage for my Goff Waaagh Rock Band , the louder the Waaagh the mightier!
Hope that nails this years theme.
-
First thing that pops into my head was that one war wagon from "Fury Road". You know the one.
Looking forward to seeing what you do.
-
yes I know the one! My basic war wagon will be a Scratchbuild Leman Russ without a turret. Of course sufficiently tinkered with in the Ork way ;)
-
I can’t wait to see this one! 8)
What about using one of the old Battlewagons as a basis for your stage? Make a stage where the passenger compartment is and have some of those big gig style speakers you see at the side of stages, either side of that? Maybe have a drummers platform up, between the speakers?

Excuse the shitty drawing from my iPad!
-
Here is the start!
My entry will be a Ork Goff Rock band for my Ork Warhammer 40000 army. They will get a moving stage in the form of a looted Leman Russ tank. The tank will be a scratch build version to the so called Ruhr pattern. A pattern of Leman Russ as build on the forge world Ruhr in the Germania sector.
I used the paper templates of Patrochloch . Here is an example of a printed out template:
The space marine is there to compare scale. I won’t build the Leman Russ out of paper though. To make it more resilient for the battlefield I will use extruded Polystyrene. Like I did with my Thunderhawk.
Here are pictures of the three main parts before cutting with the hot wire cutter and after basic assembly with a hot glue gun:

More to come
-
Detailing that foam to look like the tank is going to be a nightmare. Do you have any solutions in mind? Would it be worth using thin plasticard, cutting it into each of the panels then glueing them on?
-
I will do panels from polystyrene. I have a cutte who can do up to 1mm thin slices. I did that with my Thunderhawk build too:
-
sorry should be "cutter". I use this one:

-
That's really impressive. I look forward to seeing how this turns out.
-
thank you
-
That cutter tool goes on my birthday pressie list :D
-
it is very recommended indeed . I am using some MDF gadgets for it too. They are from Shiftinglands (https://www.shiftinglands.com). They help me cutting really thin sheets or angles, curves and domes.
-
I did some more work on the Leman Russ body yesterday. The rough detailing started.

Thats how it looks at the moment.
-
thanks Scurv ;)
-
This is so much like CAD. That machine looks the ducks guts as well. I want one!
Given CAD is just drafting done on a computer and a lot of drafting tools look like this, not shocked. Why it surprises me that people feel intimidated by 3D modelling - it just drawing things with an extra plane
-
I did some more work on the Leman Russ tank.

Next step was adding the tracks and the track guards.
-
This is really impressive 8) 8) 8)
-
looking sharp! I have to ask though- are you making four at the same time? :o
-
A Goffik Rokk Band and a foam Land Raider!
What's not to like?
:D
Excellent progress so far, sir.
You are certainly a dab hand with that cutter.
8) 8)
-
Thank you ! Yes you are correct there are three more in a basic stage. I did that as you have to reset the cutter for different thicknesses of the polystyrene each time , so I cut the main parts for three more. I won't do anything more to them though for the time being and will concentrate on the one for the contest. As it takes more time to build 4 parallel to each other. On the other hand it is quicker to build more models at the same time then to build one after the other.
-
I started to put rivets and other small detail onto the Leman Russ

-
Nice work. What are you using for rivets?
-
Cool! 8)
Your tanks kinda remind me of those inflatable decoy Shermans the British used in WWII!
-
This really is coming together nicely.
8)
Nice work. What are you using for rivets?
Some type of pins, I would guess.
One of the advantages of foam, easy to stick pins into it.
It should make it stronger too, with the amount of rivets a Russ would need.
;)
-
They are not pins. I made them with a rubber mould from Greenstuffworld. The mould makes 6 different sizes of rivets screws and nuts. Very recommended as you can have as many rivets as you like in no time. I use magic sculpt to put into the moulds.
-
Will check them out - thanks!
-
Great stuff 8) 8)
-
Thanks for the encouragement !
I finished the Leman Russ tank by detailing the tracks
(https://wargamesgazette.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/img_9663.jpg?w=346&h=464&zoom=2)
and adding the last rivets and other detail to the sides
(https://wargamesgazette.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/img_9693.jpg?w=454&h=345&zoom=2)
This finishes the build of the tank. Now i will start to build the stage for the band. I started with building the supporting iron beams:
These were build from 3mm thin polystyrene parts glued to form a I beam. I cut the strips with a special gadget for my polystyrenecutter :
this device helps in cutting ultra thin polystyrene boards . The thinnest I can manage is 1mm.
More to come. what I still have to do is the stage the sound system, the drum set and some ork decorations like a board displaying the name of the band.
-
Your tank looks really good. Can't wait to see how that looks with some paint on it.
Is that special gadget one of the ones on offer from Geboom?
-
Nice work. I'm impressed by what you've achieved with jsut a hot wire - my attempts are always a right old mess!
-
I’m impressed with what he can do with foam! Who would have thought of using foam for detail work! :o
-
White Knight , yes it is from Gerald Boom.
Have a look on Geralds Facebook page there you can see what a real master of the hot wire can do. I am a mere beginner.
-
Have a look here if you like https://www.facebook.com/gerard.boom.12 or here https://www.shiftinglands.com
-
White Knight , yes it is from Gerald Boom.
I'd been considering getting those to work with my hotwire device. Seems like I should.
-
Now, after finishing the Leman Russ, the building of the ork parts of the rolling stage starts. Here are pictures of the beginning of the stage:
The mast will carry the sound system eventually, or at least part of it. as you can see there are 4 spaces for the members of the Band left free. Here are pictures of a test fit of the original miniatures the singer ( Eardrumsplitta) , guitarist and the Bass man. The drummer has to be done from scratch.
Here is a picture of the beginning of the drummer:
And the beginning of the sound system:
Complete with equalizer. Next will be the fitting of the sound system and the proper build of the drummer
-
Wonderful!
8) 8)
I am really looking forward to seeing how the band and their equipment will look once completed.
:)
-
I think the build will be finished this coming weekend . So not much longer
-
That IS one impressive set of speakers :o 8)
-
Red onez iz louda as well as fasta?
:D
This is looking appropriately orky/gobliny already, I can't wait to see the massive overabundance of speakers bolted and lashed into all sorts of unlikely and unstable arrangements!
-
immediately makes me think of this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5rRZdiu1UE
-
Rich H indeed that is a fitting video :D
Here is the speaker arrangement on the stage:

and the drum set:

-
Awesome work on those speakers :-*
-
(https://wargamesgazette.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/img_9873.jpg)
I love this :-* I can't wait to see it painted!
-
This is brilliant! 8)
What about changing the drums/symbols for recognisable bits from the 40k universe? Maybe a hatch from a Rhino as symbols, helmets from Marines as bongos and Necron rib cage as a xylophone?
-
There will be some more orc symbols once the build is finished .
-
(https://wargamesgazette.files.wordpress.com/2018/01/img_9876.jpg?w=463&h=463&crop=1&zoom=2)
The speakers look awesome, but I definitely think they could be more "Ork-ish". Maybe add a few more, less symmetrical and less rectangular, attached more haphazardly?
-
Brilliant!
If you want a more orky look, just make a teetering stack of them ready to topple over.
With a gretchin or snotling on top, of course.
-
I finished building the stage yesterday. Here are pictures of the changes and additions I did:
I added a sign on top of the speakers. This will display the name of the band in ork glyphs then I added cabling for the speakers , the guitars and the microphone of the singer.
Then I added bolts, rivets and nuts to the stage:
And thats what the stage with band looks like at the moment:
-
Thats amazing looking! Can't wait to see it finished
-
Love it! :-*
Have you considered carving the looted Leman Russ hollow from the bottom and hiding a small iPod or similar kind of player with speaker inside :) That would allow you to blast real music from the machine :D
-
That wouldn't be to difficult to ad an iPod . I will think about it after the contest as I won't manage it in the time left.
-
That is starting to look all proper Orky!
I love the thought of hollowing the tank out and putting an iPod Shuffle or some tiny MP3 player in there.
-
Now all I can think of is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VNUyjRRjxM
-
Thanks for your kind replies !
-
Just bloody brilliant :o 8) :o 8) 8) 8) :o 8) :o
-
The build is finished and the basecoat is on:
As you can see, after base coating the contraption , you can’t tell that it is made from polystyrene. The only telltale is the wight when you lift it. So from now on no more pictures as long as I am not dropped out of the build something contest.
-
(https://wargamesgazette.files.wordpress.com/2018/02/img_9955.jpg)
Is it me or the horned-skull-glyph thingy really looks sad? lol
Looks really good and I'm sure it will look great painted.
-
Brilliant!
I love the way that everything is hanging over the side making the Land Raider look small in comparison.
8) 8)
-
Splendid! Goffick RockˋnˋRoll...what’s not to love about this?
-
Send of the picture of the painted stage. Can anyone tell me if it reached you? Do we use the address provided or has the address changed since the server change of the forum?
-
Still trying to get hold of the submitted pic :( - could you resubmit to buildsomething@leadadventureforum.com, just in case retrieval proves impossible?
-
Ok will do
-
Sent it again to the new address can you tell me if you got it
-
Sent it again to the new address can you tell me if you got it
Yup - got it, I also replied to the email.
Nice work too :D 8)

I’m going to say it one more time(at least once anyway! ;)) I cant believe what you’ve done with just foam! That build just oozes orkishness out of every rivet! :-* :-* :-*
-
I have to confess I am very envious of the Goffik Rock tank 8) 8) 8)
-
thanks!
-
Yep great work. It's a pity we ar eonly allowed on pic!
I am also blaming you for the pile of tiny rivet heads, bolt heads and screws on my desk... lol lol
-
That's very cool Tom 8)
-
Thank you all
-
Amazing

That's pretty sweet :)
:-*

Thank you for the kind words!
