Title: British Artillery, Officers, and Rifles (pic heavy)
Post by: Justin Buck on April 20, 2009, 05:50:20 PM
Finally finished these figures that had been sitting on my workbench for a while.  My British force is now almost complete, just have some Sudan British and some native troops to finish.  Now on to the show. First up is the artillery crew/gun.

Next is the Rifle detachment:

And finally the Colonel and two Captains:

Now before anyone says that the rifles should have black boots, I know that but I got tired of painting black.  Plus with the England being invaded by the Prussians, these troops had to make do with local supply.  That's my story and I'm sticking to it :)  All the figures are from Redoubt's Sudan range except for the artillery officer which is from the Zulu range.  I need some help naming the Colonel and the Captains.  Part of the Colonel's back story is that he loves to hunt, hence the wolfs (or werewolf) cape.  Any comments would be great.

Very nice, I really like the blue of the artillery crew, it looks good.
The colonel is cool too!

They have come up a treat, beautifully done, particularly the Colonel.  ;D

Your pics are a wonderful advert for Redoubt figures!

Like Malamute, I have a soft spot for them and too many people poo-poo them without taking the time to see just how charming they are.

Please post lots more pics - especially of them in action  :D

Very nice figures (I am another Redoubt lover...) but a quick question... Have you found reference on the rifles weairng green at this time? I know the 60th Regiment of Foot was wearing green in the Zululand... but I think they dropped everything in serious colour after the Egyptian expedition of 1882 adopting grey and Khaki (the latter initially for indian dservice units then also for everyone in the mediterranean) Still the rifles in green are  ??? rifles?  ::).

He did say they'd be on home service...

Thank you all for your comments.  The reason why the rifles are in green and not the gray is because I am going to use them in a fictional African setting, I also just finished painting a lot of troops in khaki and wanted to paint another color.  Plus, I think they look cool next to red and khaki coated troops.  For my British force I just pick different units from 1879-1900 that I think look good.  Whenever someone says rifle troops I always think dark green. :)

Great looking figures.  Not to be picky  :D but I think the Rifles bugle should be silver not brass.  However for fictional, ad hoc home service stuff who cares.

never said the rifles hand't to wear green... despite what some clerks at horse guards decide! By the way, have you also osme mounted units and indians to showcase?

Also what you think of the one pose policy of many redoubt colonaial fiugres? I have tried to create my units with at least 2 oses for the rankers.
