Title: Good pirate naval rules?
Post by: Zeebeest on 25 January 2018, 09:51:12 AM
Hi,

I'm looking for some good and not necessary historical naval rules for pirate ship battles.

I know of the old Man o' war game and uncharted seas, but are there any other good rulesets out there. Something among those lines would do nicely.

Greetings,
Zeebeest.

Blood & Plunder has very good ship rules (and good land and amphibious, too)

If you can find them, we have used "Limies & Slimies" for years. The are quick & easy, down & dirty. And a lot of fun.

Can't go past Galleys and Galleons, IMO.

Peter Pig do Pirate rules. which include infantry action (mainly) and ship stuff.
You can play with their small model ships, or 15mm figures on bigger (obviously) ships.
I have used cut outs for the decks for close in 'one on one' boarding actions, much fun.

Thanks mate!

I would recommend G&G too.... but I'm a little biased.  ;)

Haha! I suppose you would be! But it is a very pleasant game for naval engagements with, IMO, just the right amount of crunch and fluff. The rules are intuitive and reward both clever and daring play, while very much conjuring a feeling of rolling broadsides and swashbuckling boarding actions. And for those so inclined (such as myself!) the fantasy rules allow you to include the kraken, ghost-ships, rocs, etc to really spice your games up.
