Since finishing my 28mm Spaceport in October, I have been working on a 28mm post apoc desert community located between LA and Las Vegas. Maybe I’ll call it Midpoint… haven’t given that a lot of thought. My interest in this grew out of work I had seen done by LAF members involved in a game called Atomic Café. What I saw drew me in and for about a decade now I have been collecting the pieces… figures, vehicles, buildings, etc… and in October of 2017 I began painting. So far I have more than 30 buildings and trailers (there will be a trailer park… with pink flamingos), and now I’m working on the vehicles… armored and otherwise. I thought I would post a few vehicle pictures of some of the more modified vehicles I’ve recently completed (note small magnet on trash truck gunner’s bottom). If you would like to see more I have been keeping a running photo log on my website’s Weekly Workbench section (lots of pictures and a weekly write-up… just click for the slide show of each week). I’ve even added “A Look Back” piece on the Workbench from October 27, 2017 in order to show all the buildings previously completed for this project (lots of Plasticville, K-Line, and a couple of the pieces from the Cars Movie/Flo’s V8 Café and the Radiator Springs Curio shop). You could lure zombies into the back of the garbage truck and then SQUISH

Very good.

Look great! Love them all. Only the garbage truck seems a bit too normal compared to the others

Great stuff.

Thanks for the kind words and for taking the time to write. In putting this collection and ultimately gallery together, my “vision” is a world gone mad, and various groups running from the madness only to find themselves trapped in this desert town surrounded by all they fear. Most of the vehicles in the collection will not be armored… thus the garbage truck with a gunner hanging out the back. The town will have a junkyard which has become the local arms market and the place where for a price you can have your vehicle armored up… anyway that’s the vision. If you do go on to my Weekly Workbench you will find a number of completed, unarmored cars and trucks plus more than 20 buildings. So far this week (its Tuesday) I have completed an 8-wheeler (cab and trailer by Toot Toys… found at the swap meet old and beat up but I think it came out great), a 1959 Chevy coup, and two hot rods. Those and the others I complete between now and Saturday will be added to the Weekly Workbench this Sunday… hope you take a look.

Got your new site bookmarked now. The weekly workbench is a good idea, but I hope you will continue to update us here too Richard. The VW is my favourite vehicle you have done so far.

Very cool so far, nice painting and conversions. I'm keeping an eye on your workbench with interest.

vonkafan and Exiledadmiral, thanks to you both for writing and your interest in my Weekly Workbench. This weekend I'll be posting on the Workbench another bunch of the unarmored vehicles (I think 14 including a Zamboni) I finished the this week. I will keep posting items here as well. Thanks again for the kind words... much appreciated. Richard

A couple years ago, I think 2015, my wife and I visited Montreal. During our trips I am always looking for something I can use with one of my miniatures collections, and in a gift shop during that trip I found a Zamboni. I could not pass up a Zamboni... seemed perfect for the craziness of a post apoc world. It was/is a very tongue-in-cheek piece, but had great potential. The big issue was the out of scale overstuffed chair used for the Zamboni's driver's seat. Since the Zamboni is largely resin I could, with a lot of work and probably damage to the Zamboni, cut it off. I decided against that in favor of working around it and living with the imperfections. I raised the cockpit’s original floor using Legos, added a steering wheel from a broken car found at the swap meet, and attached a variety of barrels to distract from the overstuffed chair. On the cushion seat of the original overstuffed chair I added a bench seat … again taken from a toy car found at the swap meet. My last touch was to use a figure from the West Wind Road Kill Human Biker Gang. The only painting I did to this piece was to the changes made to the cockpit and the driver.(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4722/40213729211_816ced88d1_c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24gxSEP)IMG_1353 (https://flic.kr/p/24gxSEP) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr(https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4616/40213729691_3fbf205270_c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/24gxSP6)IMG_1354 (https://flic.kr/p/24gxSP6) by Richard Garretson (https://www.flickr.com/photos/158632126@N06/), on Flickr
