I've just finished a couple of blog posts discussing how to go about building forces for the classic AK47 Republic. http://dereksweetoys.com/category/ak47/

Interesting reading and good to see AK47 getting some coverage.
We play classic too and I think round bases are a better option aesthetically. That said, I can’t face rebasing everything.

very nicely done.

they are so nicely done ,I have shared to Modern African Bushwars ..Facebook page..Well done..

Super read, really interesting, hopefully we will see the Young Leith team get the gubbing they deserve!! ;)

I have often thought of using AK-47 (I also have the old rules) with my 20mm figures. I like the idea of the round bases and might try them again but blutacked into 40mm round bases for movement. I do not have storage space for permanently based figures.
What do you think?

I think that would work fine. Go for it!

Nicely done, the round bases do look nice, but I too cannot face re-basing what I already have done.
For those that have not played AK47 I say, 'Give it a go, it is great fun' Any game that starts with choosing
& colouring in your Nations flag & ends with a final dice up/points count to see who history will record as the
winner, gets my vote. Even if you do not want to buy a lot of new 15mm African wars stuff, try it with some
of your old 20mm Airfix WW2 stock, or even cut out some card bases & write on them what they are.

Good timing! A couple of us have just decided to jump into AK and your posts and blog have been very handy as well as giving a bit of inspiration. I'm putting mines onto round bases too. Might well paint up some of my militia as Dundee Arabs in tribute to the YLT :D

I much prefer the look of the circles to squares. And if you rebase over you get 50% more stands for your forces :-)
I think the use of square bases is sometimes a hangover from the days before laser-cutters existed. People use them out of habit in situations where circles look better and function just as well.

Dundee Utility!

Oh Yes!

In days of yore when shillings went out of circulation, I used a piece of conduit sharpened on a grinder as a stamp to cut out round bases.
