Title: Zorro update
Post by: Malamute on 08 May 2009, 12:09:42 PM
Ok Chaps,

I now have a very large box of freshly cast miniatures  ;D

.... Including Zorro on foot and mounted, all the dismounted lancers and all the dismounted Vaqueros.
I also have mounted lancers and mounted Vaqueros, but no finished horses for them yet.
The horses will be ready early june along with the next 8 figures plus mounted versions.
So by late june they will all be ready for shipping. :) (At last I hear you say!)
If anybody just wants  dismouted castings and the Zorro pack send me a PM.
My website will not be ready for a while, so you will only be able to contact me via LAF or Email,
I am away on holiday until 18th may so will not be picking up PM's until then.
By the way the shiny lead versions look even better than the greens... The detail stands out more. :D

Mrs Dewbakuk is going to be SO upset with you  lol

Any chance of pics of the ready figs? I'd suggest a thin grey/black wash over the casting to show all the details in a photo. It can then also be painted over easily without obscuring anything.

Good Morning Malmute....

When you refer to dismounted "lancers" are you talking about the Presidial troops?

I'll be ordering a bunch from you but I can always start with ther Presdials if that is the case.

Great news! Disney is finally releasing the 1957 TV series, starring Guy Williams, on DVD!

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Zorro-Seasons-1-and-2/11858

I remember watching this faithfully as a kid and enjoying it tremendously.  It was unfortunately also the source of one of my biggest childhood traumas! I was in the middle of watching what I believe was the last episode, with Zorro fighting Capitan Monasterio on the rooftops, when a transformer down the street blew and we lost all power! I never found out what happened because I never saw the episode again! I was crushed! Now, you'd better believe that I'll be one of the first in line to buy these sets! Great inspiration for the new figures.

The release of the Zorro series is indeed great news, but I bet it doesn't come out on on region 2,

There are so many old TV shows I want but the U.S. never release them on region 2: SWAT,MARTIAN CHRONICLES,TIME TUNNEL etc.

It displeases me greatly. >:( (Multi region DVD players aren't always the answer either.) >:( >:( >:( >:(

As regards the figures though, count me in for the lot when the horses are ready I'm seriously inspired by these.

I don't even have any suggestions for the range as you seem to be doing everything I want already. I'm looking forward to those American interlopers.

No sign of it here in the Uk. I've settled for a 5 disc set of old black and white Zorro movies and the Antonio Banderas ones.

Bulldogger2000

Sorry for the late reply, just back from holidays.
Yes I was referring to the Presidial troops as lancers.
I am planning to do some dragoons next ( the chaps in red tunics and helmets) Not sure whether to do the mounted versions open handed to take a lance or holding carbines? Any suggestions?
Title: Re: Zorro update
Post by: Calimero on 16 May 2009, 01:16:44 PM
I think that open handed is the way to go... You can then either place a carbine or a lance in it?
Title: Re: Zorro update
Post by: Dewbakuk on 16 May 2009, 06:16:27 PM
I'm going to be awkward and say do the hand seperate. That way you can do a lance and carbine with hands sculpted on properly :)
Title: Re: Zorro update
Post by: traveller on 16 May 2009, 06:28:25 PM
I agree with Dewbakuk, those open handed figures seldome look "right". Much better with separate weapons with hands cast on them

I think I didnt explain my self correctly. the carbine is hung from a sling over the shoulder, so the option was to do either the trooper open handed for lance with carbine slung, or the trooper holding a carbine on his hip, etc, and not being armed with lance. I just thought it would be nice to have the Mexican cavalry not all armed with lances.

Title: Re: Zorro update
Post by: Dewbakuk on 17 May 2009, 11:40:36 AM
Ah, I see. In that case, for Dragoons, I'd go for the carbines in hand. Even though I personally dislike seeing figs in "at ease" poses. Never understood why they are in those poses during a battle! However, I know I'm in the minority there.

Again, Dewbakuk has a point. The "carbine on hip" is pretty useless for a skirmish game. Much better to let them fire the carbine or having it pointing at a presumable enemy, alternatively arm them with a pistol or sabre.

I guess its one of those you can't please all the people all of the time scenarios. :?
I am one of those that likes my cavalry figures just riding horses in relaxed poses and not waving guns or swords above heads. Its the same with dismounted figures, I am not a fan of firing poses. I know that may sound stupid, but I much prefer to see my figures advancing. The same can be said for kneeling poses or prone figures, I am not a fan of those either. Hey Ho!

As I said, I know I'm in the minority (don't understand why though). I like firing poses, it's what they should be doing! I'm also a fan of kneeling poses, especially for front rank British Colonials, especially if they're also firing :D

Prone figures have their place. For example: snipers or deployed heavy machine guns. However it's a restrictive position so I wouldn't want it on normal infantry.

Another example where Malamute will disagree with me, is I like charging cavalry figs. Nothing beats the image of a lancer at full charge with the lance levelled!
Title: Re: Zorro update
Post by: Svennn on 19 May 2009, 09:26:56 AM
Not particularly for this range but I absolutely love kneeling figures. Probably something to do with the old Airfix boxes of childhood. Australian Infantry with Dewey anyone?

Ok, so most cavalry dismounted to fire rifles but it would be nice to see the occasional firing pose on a standing horse - not many I can think of for any period.

Without studying the poses its difficult to say but first thoughts are a lance or carbine option would be favourite.

I don't totally disagree with you :) Lancer with lance levelled do look great and prone figures do have their uses.

In my minds eye and in the games we play where cavalry units are normall patrolling up and down the table, I always like to see my cavalry columns in a natural riding pose, lances upright with penants gently flapping in the breeze :D

Perhaps we could have a one armed figure with a multipose lance or carbine, then you could position , pose as you like  8)

I'll just go away and shut up now  lol

(by the way it was just a joke, whatever you are doing works fine for me  :D)

Curiously, there is a similar thread on Frothers at the moment (for some reason it has devolved form a discussion about MPs expenses).
