Title: New Black Army Vehicle: M36 Euzkadi!
Post by: Doc Twilight on 09 May 2009, 08:12:59 AM
Hello, everyone -

Finally pleased to be able to share this. I commissioned this vehicle a few weeks ago from our own Tobsen77, and I couldn't be happier with Tobi's work. This is the (in)famous Basque tankette of the Spanish Civil War, the M36 Euskadi, sculpted in an appropriate scale for 28mm. It has been slightly oversized, according to Tobi, but it looks just fine to me based upon the photos of the actual vehicle I had.

The vehicle was armed with dual MMGs mounted with gun tubes, and typically crewed by three men, though some sources say it could hold up to four, if you can believe that. This was primarily used by Basque Republicans, but it was also captured and used by Carlists and other Nationalists. It'd make an excellent Generic Interwar Vehicle, in my humble opinion, too.

No news yet on the price yet, but I will make it as reasonable as possible. I hope you agree with me that this is fine work. I couldn't be more pleased, or more amazed at Tobi's great work.

Article says the tank was called a "toy tank" because its size and reliability. In their debut, in the heat of the parade before the public and president Aguirre, they broke down, needing to be repaired on the spot by their crews.

Better build that into the rules.  ;-)

Nice looking though. Fun to use nevertheless.

I have the full sized photos, I just didn't feel that I wanted to post that many large photos in one message.

If you're looking for "reliable" or "powerful", this would be the wrong period to look for such things;)

I was actually surprised, DH, that these weren't in the T&T SCW Supplement! No Basque Republicans either! The horror!;)

Here's some additional info:

The model depicted is the M36 Trubia-Naval.

There were several of these built. They had amusing incidents with reliability, but did prove their worth in service from time to time.
Supposedly all were destroyed during the war, or captured, and then done away with by the Nationalists. Of course, I have Basque friends who tend to tell a slightly different story, but that's all you'll get outta me;)

It will likely be cast in metal, for those interested. If I can figure out a way to get it cast in resin, of course, I will.

Grateful you guys like it:) And Willie, if you want two of 'em, I'm sure that can be arranged!;)
