Title: Prussian Seebatallion
Post by: Skrapwelder on 10 May 2009, 10:41:13 PM
My British have been getting most of my attention lately until I received a communique from the Prussian figures that occupy the top shelf of my miniatures cabinet. The message stated rather succinctly that if I didn't paint some more naval support troops for the Prussians the high command would begin throwing unpainted Prussian figures sharing their shelf down into the British figures two shelves below. I felt obligated to submit to their demands as they did have a point. There was a certain niche missing in the forces of a Prussian invasion. That being the Marines that would be making the first landings on English soil.

These were made from Renegade Miniatures Early WW1 Jagers. I did some filing on the shako cover to make it look more like an uncovered shako and converted their puttees into boots with some epoxy putty.

I think I have one more full unit to paint and then there will be a basing party to give them all some earth and turf to stand on.

Great idea with the figures, especially with the colour scheme. I've got a few packs of these chaps sitting around and I'm wondering what to do with them. I was thinking of using them for as armed Prussian police officers or landwehr for the inevitable Brit invasion. I'm definitely going to follow your lead and file the shako down.

To be honest if I were you I would have sat back for a while and enjoyed the shelf wars before giving in to the Prussian demands.  :)

Always wanted to do some like these, but not yet managed!

You painted these just in time. The British army had dug a sap underneath the Prussian shelf and it was about to collapse anyway. Hurrah!

A great looking bunch of figures. These Renegade early Germans work so well for VSF.I'm on the verge of ordering a bunch of early war Brits to get my Russian VSF forces started. I think they'll work quite well possibly.

So when is the next big game and can we expect to see some pics soon?

They had the West Wind Child Victims pack. I feel I had little choice.

All this painting and kitbashing and terrain building has been in preparation for Kublacon, which is in two weeks. I have five games planned for the weekend to run an England Invaded campaign. Alfrik's been helping me with terrain (he did a beautiful resuscitation job on my 5x9 game mat). I hope to be posting our battle reports once we get home from the con.

I like these a lot! I like Thunderchicken's idea, but to me they also look like the sort of armed police one bumps into in exotic central European countries whilst hunting for Vampires, lost biblical treasures etc. Lots of potential uses for them!

Definitely an idea to steal shamelessly  :D

Very nice
You can use them in WWI. They wore the dress uniform (with shako cover) until early 1915. At Antwerp you can have opposite the British Royal Marines

What's the difference between Seebataillon and Matrosen Regiment? I have a picture of troops from a Matrosen Regiment marching through Antwerp and they are dressed in double-breasted jackets and sport sailor-style caps.  Are they ships' crews press-ganged into fighting as infantry?

I think the situation is pretty similar to the British one. In Antwerp you have the Naval division consisting of Royal marines and sailors. The German marine division (later corps) consisted of see bataillon troops and sailors
