I've been nosing around 28mm scale aircraft for my Pulp game.
There's not a lot out there, but there are some exceptions.
There these from Model Power (http://www.modelpower.com/index.asp)
Army - With pontoons - olive drab - if this had two seats and was silver it would be the plane at the start of Raiders...

This is a good site (http://www.zi.ku.dk/personal/drnash/model/spain/scwmodel.html) listing planes of the Spanish Civil War in various scales including 1/48.
Aeroclub used to make a 1/48 DE89 Dragon Rapide (http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Fea1/901-1000/Fea955_DH89_Aibara/fea955.htm), but I quickly found it goes for biggish money on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290086352481).
Italeri make a Henscel HS-123 (http://www.italeri.com/product.aspx?item=2632S) and a CR42 (http://www.italeri.com/product.aspx?item=2640S).
Revell make a Junkers Ju52 (http://www.revell.de/en/products/model_kits/model_kits/aircraft/index.html?id=210&KOKANR=01&KOSCHL=01&KGSCHL=&L=1&page=10&sort=0&nc=1&searchactive=&q=&SWO=&ARMAS4=&CatalogueSID=65fc722cc6a901bac562e34d2b2befc0&KZSLPG=all&offset=79&cmd=show&ARARTN=04521&sp=1) and Henschel HS-123 (http://www.revell.de/en/products/model_kits/model_kits/aircraft/index.html?id=210&KOKANR=01&KOSCHL=01&KGSCHL=&L=1&page=10&sort=0&nc=1&searchactive=&q=&SWO=&ARMAS4=&CatalogueSID=65fc722cc6a901bac562e34d2b2befc0&KZSLPG=all&offset=73&cmd=show&ARARTN=04500&sp=1).
ESCI/Ertl used to make a Lockeed Vega (http://www.austinsms.org/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=9&pos=110).

SMER make a Fiat CR-32 Freccia (http://www.smer.cz/vyrobky.php?jazyk=uk&t=1&h=1&k=5&o=11&m=48), D.H. 82 "Tiger Moth", Piper L4 Cub, and a Supermarine Walrus Mk.2 (http://www.smer.cz/vyrobky.php?jazyk=uk&t=1&h=1&k=5&o=10&m=48).

Love that top one (well, all of them, really). Sea planes are so cool. Does anyone know of any Great War floatplane kits in 1/48th?
I'd really like a floatplane.

Very cool floatplane here:

this kit is available elsewhere so do a web search.
Testors used to do an SB6 (Schnieder Trophy winner and forerunner of the Spitfire), try ebay for both?

Smash hit. Must have!

Aahhh, Porco Rosso! Gotta love that one! I used to have an AMV featuring scenes from PR underlaid with Wagner´s "Ride of the Valkyries"... ah, the good old days.

Superb Curtis. Have a look here:
