Post by: cpstu on 22 May 2009, 11:39:45 AM
Martello Internationals 1/72 scale Afghan insurgent set painted using Vallejo paints

I've done a tutorial on how to paint these, it can be found here:

Nice paint jobs.

If I can make a couple of comments about the colour schemes, the shirt/trouser combination (shalwar kameez or pirhan tonban, depending on which local language you're after) should always, always match. They're worn (and sold) as a combined set). You say in your tutorial that the Taliban pretty much just wear black, which isn't strictly true, although they were often known for their black turban silks. Hope this helps for your next batch.

These painted minis are afghan insurgents......that could represent any number of factions fighting in afghanistan today....

I've seen images of Taliban in afghanistan and pakistan wearing mixed coloured clothing....the guys dressed fully in black.....could be a unit 'uniform'?

I've seen fighters wearing white too....

I'd assume they wash their clothing and sometimes mix clothing up.....?

Front line units also wear NATO uniforms and equipment in battle, inc night vision goggles!

OK, fair point on the actual colours... But I've spent quite a bit of time in Afghanistan in recent years (including pre-9/11: I interviewed a Taliban commander at an army base in Jalalabad, the most surreal experience of my life!) and Pakistan as well, and I have never, ever seen anyone wearing a mis-matched shalwar kameez. It just doesn't happen. Any colour contrast you've seen might just be from the waistcoast?

These minis I painted are NOT taliban, they are insurgents of any shade apart from taliban...... :)
