Just finished this unit of VSF submarines for the May painting competition at Sheffield Irregulars.
Victorian Sci-Fi experimental naval unit. Her Majesty's (Gawd Bless 'Er) U.N.D.I.E.S (Underwater Naval Division:Intrusion and Encounter Squad). This experimental squadron of low-cost submarines are so distrusted by the navy that they're not allowed to carry the usual naval ensigns, and instead have to sport the union flag. However, they are very effective when used against an unsuspecting enemy!!

Models are barrel subs from Shifting Lands. Flags and waves are all hand-painted. I really enjoyed painting these chaps - now I just need to find a game to use them in!! :)
Your C&C are most welcome.

Puts me in mind of the submersible in the "Three Musketeers" films from the 70s (the one with Michael York, Ollie Reed, etc.).
Definitely more Stuart Period Science Fiction than VSF to my mind (excepting the slightly anachronistic Union jacks - nothing that a stroke or two of white paint couldn't fix), but still nice and jolly, and none the worse for that. :)
-
Great, look very good.
B.R.A.S. and U.N.D.I.E.S whats next T.H.O.N.G.S.?
-
Oh, shush-shush! Now ee' will. Very nice, but I can imagine these bein' a tad leaky bein' Her Majesty's (Gawd Bless 'Er) U.N.D.I.E.S.
...
>:D
-
These are sweet!

Very nice. :)

Hey Keeper,
Nice navy ya got there. Nice, clean and crisp. :-)
I was curious the size of your models and a scale if one is viable? :-)

I really like the name "sounds familar". ( :? what have I started ;D)
Nice models and paint job.
-
Very cool. They look great!! Thanks for sharing.
-
Damn you I love those!
-
Thanks chaps. And a special thanks to gamerMac for the inspiration for naming them ;)
@BI: Yeah, they are a little leaky, but that goes with them being experimental subs :)
@Grimmnar: I didn't think about a scale photo - I'll take one later. But they're about the right size for waterline one-man subs in 28mm.
-
LOL Brilliant name and great work Keeper
I like these very much, esp the one with the circular saw!
-
Wonderful! Like Mad Carew Snr I particularly approve of the circular saw submersible - And naturally like everyone else I approve of the name. lol
-
Great work there.

Hey Keeper,
Yeah, i wasnt sure on the scale. Cant tell from the pic.
Couldnt tell if they were for fleet action or as big as 28mm scale.
Would love to see em next to a 28mm model when you get a chance for size purposes.
But they are very snazzy. I do like em alot. And betting the buzzsaw on the front will make quick work of any enemy ship in it's path. :-)

Sorry Grimm, I just haven't found the time to take any pics of anything at all this week. I shall take a pic next a 28mm mini, I promise! :)
In the mean time, the actual sizes are given on the Shifting Lands website, here: http://www.shiftinglands.com/subs.htm

I think that I have fallen for this company. The buildings are great and the docks are amazing! I have to email for prices.

Chairface
Did you look at some of the building projects on the site :o :o
-
I like his pirate buildings that he says he sells on Ebay. Doesn't give a link to his ebay store or listings though.

He used to sell on this account, http://shop.ebay.co.uk/merchant/geboom_W0QQ_dmdZ1QQ_ipgZ50QQ_sopZ12?_rdc=1
But he hasn't got anything listed at the moment.
However, I did promise a size comparison photo - and finally got around to it last night. Apologies for the delay!

Cheers for that Keeper. Looks like he hasn't sold anything for about 2 years. May have to drop him an email. Was hoping for a ballpark price first though so as to not waste both our time if they turn out to be more than I'm willing to pay :?
With regards to the subs, they'll work fine as one man subs. My first impression was they were too small, but then I thought about it and a seated man doesn't take up that much room. Then it's just the drive chains and pedals. It'd be tight but feasible and vehicles tend to be a bit undersized anyway.
Anyway, who cares? They look great!
-
I honestly don't remember how much I paid for them. But I did send Gerald a link to this thread and got a pretty quick response, so he is still on the internet, at least! :) Can't have been too expensive, though, if I picked up five at once!
I always thought about them being waterline as well, so if they've got a similar depth to their height, then there is just about space for one man, but like you said, not that it matters! :D

Yes I did. Completely impressive!
-
Nice work and great name :D
I have a set of these waiting to be painted for my 15mm ACW-VSF Confederate army. They are very nice models.
-
Being quite bussy with regular work :? I am a bit out of the hobby.
Any way, If someone likes the subs, I have plenty lying around and can send them in an envelope.
Cheers

very nive and neat
these seem also to go with a certain shortage of barrels in the homeland ;)
-
AMAZING! It will suites VSF and Fantasy wargames perfectly!
-
Those things ALWAYS make me think 'Crimson Pirate' (Burt Lancaster - end of final battle)
-
I could see them being used by a CSA faction - very nice.
-
"B.R.A.S."??
