Hi there,
As a first - to my knowledge - someone is actually making a miniature gaming convention in DK.
There's no word on the scale of things yet, but anyone wishing to participate in anyway (showing games, just attending, whatever) should contact: Jakob Spicker at jakobspicker "weird a" gmail.com with a topic title called "Horisont"
Date: saturday 28. and sunday 29. november 2009
Location: Rørkjærhallen in Esbjerg
I'm not associated with the planning group in question... just being very enthusiastic about the project!
-
I have to say I'm really positive about it. Unfortunately I tend to work weekends, so I'll have to see if I can manage to get myself free from work, so please cross your figures that it'll happen. I'm going to try and get someone the guys from 2MD (Vejle) to come along its not too far from us.
-
Well, since I'm mentioned in here, I better post something myself.
Yes, it's true that we are working on a gaming convention in Esbjerg, Denmark this fall (28tn and 29th of November). It is however not true, that Thorbjørn is not associated with the planning group, as he most likely will be named 2iC and Mid-Jutland coordinator for this thing :D
We hope to have a site up soon with more info on the scale and format of the convention.
As Thorbjørn wrote, anyone interested is more than welcome to contact me pr. mail (horisont.esbjerg "at" gmail.com or jakobspicker "at" gmail.com).
For those of you outside Denmark, Esbjerg is located to the south-west of Denmark, not very far from the German-Danish border. The English-Danish ferry harbours at Esbjerg and it is even possible to fly directly to Esbjerg. Alternatively the drive from Billund (central Danish airport) is about 45 minutes.
-
Interesting!
-
Hmm, only two and a half hour drive from here. Interesting, very interesting.
-
A bit more info from me. Thought it would be a good idea, after an email I recieved from Karsten.
There will be accomodations available to the participants of the convention. Not a 5-star hotel or anything like that, but we have been able to book the school next to the gym, where you can sleep in the class rooms (remember to bring sleeping bag & something to sleep on). Due to cleaning expenses for the school, we have to charge a bit for participation (so far around DKK 50 or approximately € 6.75). The calssrooms are open both Friday-to-Saturday and Saturday-to-Sunday nights.
Food will be provided at a resonable price from a local diner. When the homepage is up, you will be able to choose from several different meals including vegetarian.
I hope that the fact, that you don't have to find accomodations for yourselves will convince more of you to come up here. This is the first convention of its kind in Denmark, so we hope it will be a success.
If you have any wishes for what you want to see, hear or play, please let me know. I have personally not participated in a convention like this, so I'm open for suggestions of all kinds. Feel free to write to me on horisont.esbjerg "at" gmail.com
Homepage and more info on the format will follow soon(ish).

@Zafarelli let´s get some guys together and make a jump to Denmark :)

Grimm, geht los 8)

Count me in!
;D
-
Just a warning to the arranging people:
DON'T let Grimm and Vikotnik lead any German, Prussian or derivatives thereof forces... lol ;)
-
The amazing webpage about Horisont, should be coming to a pc near you around July the 1st
-
Amazing might be a big word about the homepage, but it is now up and running.
There will be a few modifications along the way (pictures and so forth), but the basics are in place.
Find the page here: Horisont-Esbjerg (http://sites.google.com/site/horisontesbjerg/welcome)
Added Bonus:
Horisont needs a logo. If you have an idea, please contact us/me with the idea - sometimes it even pays off to be creative...

That's easy: The silhouette of Esbjerg's water tower with King Kong gazing out into the sunset over the North Sea.... ;)
-
Partial threadomancy... I know... but:
Homepage has been updated with some more games...
@Argonor: If you happen to read this: Your idea for the logo has been used - thanks for the input.
-
OK... a bit more for you
For those thinking of attending: We need input on what to offer for dinner Saturday evening. I have created a poll on the Danish forum, where the main debates for the event are (Sorry for linking to a external forum):

But there is not enough information to pay via bank transfer from outside Denmark.

We are trying to find a solution to this problem and will soon come with an answer

Woauw..
One millions thanks to everyone who came and participated in our very first attempt at making a wargaming show.
I have regained my faith in humanity!
I shall try to put up some pictures later on. When I've reclaimed my body from the 10 L beer monster I encountered yesterday.

What a weekend. I truly enjoyed the games, the people and the good times shared.
I enjoyed meeting new people and getting faces and voices to internet-nicknames.
I surely plan to return next year!
For those interested in pictures I have some online here... http://www.skizofrenia.dk/2009/11/29/horisont-2009/ (http://www.skizofrenia.dk/2009/11/29/horisont-2009/) (all the text is in danish - sorry - but that shouldn't have much on an impact on the pictures I hope ;)

Yeah a great weekend, throughly enjoyable, just a pity i had to work today. I put some very poor pictures up on my blog if anyone is interested in taking a look:

Thanks to everyone that came and made it what it was, and especially to Spicker & co that made it happen. Already looking forwards to next and now determined to have a board that can stand beside the german tables and still be proud! ;)

Yes we must all try to dethrone the Germans! Their stuff is way to nice. :D

I take it that being dethroned would mean never to use the word 'Himmel' again... lol
As I have mentioned elsewhere, it was a fantastic convention! I will definitely return next year! I have taken lots of photos, too. I will try to upload them sometime next week.
Now off to bed, time to succumb to the 10l beer aftermath...

Uh yes, and you can't say "brot" anymore either. That's just as infringing to Danish IP as "bread" ;-)

Ok this is obviously a joke I missed! :D
-
Thank you everyone!
I couldn't have hoped for a better outcome. The setup showed a couple of shortcomings that I would like to excuse for - but hopefully they will be taken care of next time.
Thank you all for taking things as they came along in great spirit!
I will make sure to post our new date as soon as we decide upon it... I think that this weekend probably wasn't the best choice.

I don't think they were really noticable.
-
What a great weekend! Perfect organisation, lovely Danish food, funny and nice Danish guys, a lot of very interesting and beautiful games, tons of Danish beer …and some really weird girls!!! ;D
Thanks to Spicker & Co. for this first Horisont. I think I can see the next one already on my horizon. :)
Cheers

lol lol lol
@Frank:
Yes the Danish girls really are something........ else!
@everyone:
If - after recovering from beer shock - you have come up with ANY suggestions as how to improve this concept, feel free to mail/PM me or Spicker. I've got a few ideas my self already.
-
there was a little talk of maybe somewhere more central like 'trekantsområde' (Vejle-Kolding-Fredericia), to help forcing the sjællanders out of their foxholes :D But as we borrowed so many of Lord's Assembly's tables it might not be too easy. If you guys need any hep organising next year I'm a willing volunteer (as long as don't get sent to fight on the german front - those guys have too good terrain!)
