Title: Tibetan Flags
Post by: nickthegreek on February 26, 2019, 05:51:46 PM
Hello All,

Currently “one” of the projects I’m working on is some fantastic Curtleys 28mm Tibetans, which paint up a treat. The third stand I’m completing includes a command group. And this is where I’ve come unstuck, does anyone have any information on designs for their standards?

Thank you Joe,

Just need to figure out, how the Tibetans styalise would represent a lion or heart artistically?
I was also the understanding there was a Slingshot article, that had some illustrations? Hopefully someone might have a copy of this issue that they could send a picture?

No idea on that one I'm afraid. And I forgot to say, great work on the figures!

They look really fantastic, are these miniatures really 28mm like plastic fireforge or frostgrave or are they smaller?

The sculpts are quite small almost a chunky 25mm.
The horses are really small compared to the usual brands like Crusader, Gripping Beast, etc...
Check them out on 1st Corps site, I invested in this army purely to n the cool sculpting.

There was an old issue of Slingshot with a pretty comprehensive article about Tibetan armies - it included shield designs and I'm sure a pennant/flag or two. Must be at least 20 years ago though.

Absolutely MartinD, I’m very keen to eyeball that Slingshot issue.
If anybody has a copy that they could share in a soft copy, it would be very much appreciated!

Nothing to help you out with the flag issue, but just commenting to say what a super paint job, really lovely. Interesting figures, you don't see them very much, great stuff!! :)

I will try to track it down on the back issue DVD if you like?

Thank you for the positive comments, they have come up well.
Fortunately a member has kindly fished out the article, which I’ve had a good read through.
Now I just need to create a few designs of Lions.

Nick
Is there any chance of getting a look at that article? Painting a Tibetan army is on my wish list. I doubt it will ever get done but you never know!

Dear Gentlemen
I happen to have written years ago ... the Slingshot article on Yar Lung Tibetans that you seem to mention, and which seems to have served as source for the design of many miniatures. For the Irregular line this is for sure as Ian directly worked from my sources. Curtley miniatures seemed to have followed on the same inspiration. To be fair I must say that I was second in line myself, after the one Chris Peers wrote earlier. Mine went a little deeper, with all due respect to Chris for whom I have great admiration.
I would be more than happy to give any information I have. You can contact me on this forum or through my mail at philippe.allard24@gmail.com.
Cheers

Great stuff - as another Tibetan general (painted the Irregular miniatures years and years ago), I am planning to touch them up this year and also give them flags. I've saved and plan to use the CRW flags, including the Tibet Riot flag (which is 20th century).

Thanks
The flags I presented were in fact seventeenth-eighteenth century models from paintings of the time, not Yar Lung ones, if I remember well.
