A lovely cargo ship master has been finished alongside a launch and small motor boat, very useful for 20th Century gaming

Oooooh. Rather good...
Now I won't have to build my own tramp steamer after all.
Not sure about the cast on base though :?

It could be because that is the master for the mold

looks cool, would work in any harbour today even.. :)

The Cargo Ship is going to be £20. the first should be ready Monday. I will post photo's once it's painted.
After that there'll be a trawler, powered barge, and a small coaster. Also looking into Colonial period river craft.
-
Why do I want one even if I don't have any minis to go with it? Could someone explain this?
>:(

Because you are a Lead Adventurer - you want EVERYTHING - the world is not enough etc

Welcome Lewis :D just about to post it here
"The base is there purely for the process of making the mold - it won't be on the finished model. A cardboard wall is stuck around this base and the rubber poured over the master, the walls of the mold are about 1cm (ish) thick, so the base is about that much wider than the boat, I'll take some photo's and put them up here that may explain the process if you're interested.
The wheelhouse assembly will be a separate piece and there will also be a bit of 6mm dowel for the foremast.
The first casts should be made Sunday - so a picture of the finished article maybe Monday (painted). Will put up a picture of the first casting with just an undercoat as soon as I can."
I will reserve a couple ;D as these look great your best work yet
Are you tempted to dabble in the period Lewis?
-
Since Solway asked me to do some boats I've had little time for anything else. Yes, I'm tempted to have a go but I still have to finish (or at least have a bit of a go) at least some of my other projects (20mm 8th Army, 28mm WW1 Germans, 28mm WW2 Brits etc etc) At least with Mr Earp away in the big city I only get hassled on the weekends.

Hehe, I didnt say anything about finishing projects ::)
Yes chatted to him last week I expected him to have finished all his projects by now but suspect the bright lights have beckoned lol

Thanks all for the info, and thanks for coming on Lewis.
A trawler and a coaster too... Mmmmmm. At last I have an incentive to paint up my merchant crew...
I think you'll find quite a few takers for these goodies here on LAF ;)
-
Class! Need one of those.
-
Splendid, think you have a winner here.

Here's the first casting. Not a very good paint job but it shows the rivet detail etc.
I haven't put the mast on yet either.

Well you convinced me. An order will be on the way as soon as it shows up on your web site. How much will shipping be? Lovely launches too!
-
Lovely Lewis :-*
-
I have the dockside waiting...... :-*
-
I will confirm this on the website later but quickly looking it up on the Royal Mail website:
The ship weighs around 1Kg, so P&P is:
within UK First Class Post - £5.45
within Europe, airmail - £8.07
outside Europe, airmail - £13.80
-
Looks awesome
Trust that you'll post a link as soon as it's for sale on the website ?
-
Cargo ship looks nice but I didn't see any mention of scale. Is is suitable for 28mm?
-
Yes, as soon as I update the website I'll post a link.
All the ships are for 28mm figures.
-
All the boats are now listed on the www.minimi.co.uk (http://www.minimi.co.uk) website

yes, they are and they are nice!
do you think that you will have some dedicated crew figures?
another question: I am not sure I understand well. the hold is open, isn't it?, or you have the cover etc.
-
The hold is open, there is no cover - that's how I was asked to do it. It's a fairly simple flat cover and it was felt that the boat would be more used for carrying cargo or people, maybe a gun or two so the cover wouldn't be needed. I will do a separate hatch cover later (once the next rash of shows is out of the way and I have some time).
I won't be doing any crew figures for it - I'd love to have a go but I've never tried figure sculpting.

If you rummage around in some of the remainder bookshops you might find a copy of "Red Jericho", it's a children's book but set in 1920s South China Sea on a Q-ship.
Has lots of fold out maps, plans. blueprints etc and some good scenario ideas.
Some of the blueprints might provide useful modelling ideas.
If you find it in the remainder shops it's probably worth the £2 they normally seem to charge.

I received my Minimi Trawler yesterday and it is simply fantastic. It comes in three parts:
*Ship
*(Steering) Cabin on the back
*Wooden dowel for on the front.
The pieces fit together perfectly and the whole thing looks really daunting on the table, it's big!
The resin was well cast and there are only a few tiny bubbles, easily fixed with Vallejo Plastic putty. The price of 20 quid was a joke...so cheap. I still don't believe it and I think it's a real steal. The ship was well packaged in a big box filled with foam peanuts and inn bubble wrap. Nothing was damaged and the piece arrived in perfect condition. Shipping fees were also very good for the weight (8 quid overseas to Holland). So summarizing:
Cast: A
Shipping: A+
Price: A++++
I can recommend this piece to everybody. Lewis' service was also super. He sent several mails informing me about the shipping state. That's something I really like as it keeps you informed.

trawler is finished too then? No pictures on the minimi site yet, can you snap one for us?

Oops! I meant the Cargo ship. Sorry for the miscommunication!
