Title: My Museum Terrain (Pic Heavy)
Post by: snitcythedog on 30 March 2019, 02:56:16 PM
Afternoon,

Finished up some of my museum terrain for Maze of Malacore and thought I would share.  I had to play with the lighting so you could see inside the cases but the colors are pretty accurate.

I still have more to do but these should also work for the pulp games we are planning at the club.
Hope you like.

Masks were form the new box for Ghost Archipelago.  They came out while I was working on the cabinets.  Just made a press mold out of instamold and green stuff. The skulls are a mix bag from about a dozen manufactures (reaper, Secret Weapon, GW, Freebooter among others).  I was stuck in the states for eighteen months waiting to immigrate and all my hobby stuff was here in the UK.  I spent my hobby budget squirreling away bits from various manufactures for the whole time I was there.  Most of the other items are from Reaper.

Damian Hirst meets Frostgrave!

They're awesome - lots of ideas for me to nick inspiration for when I get around to making mine.

Not as much as you might think.  To make the basic box and cut the glass I just used a rotary paper cutter.  If I had to do it by hand I would have quit long ago.

The wood framing was just coffee stirrers trimmed to size.  Again I have a cutter for that.

My rule for the items in the cabinets was to not use more than two colors of paint.  They just got a wash after everything was painted.  The number of items in the cabinets give the impression of detail and the glass limits the view.

I did the cabinets on batches of two or three and the whole project took about two weeks in the evenings.

Wow, that is very impressive and has given me some ideas for extra things to put in my model museum.

I hope you don't mind me mentioning here, but just in case anyone else is interested in making a model museum, Sally 4th has a kit for a museum, museum display cases and resin cast museum exhibits in our Exotic Location Range.

These are such a great idea. I'm surprised that I haven't seen fantasy or pulp games set in museums more often. And they look like they're so simple to make too. Even without sourcing the items you did, most modellers could get away with random bits and bobs off sprues to come out with something similar.

At salute I picked up some of the Mantic miniatures bookcases.

My only complaint was they were glued together and I could not clean them up as well as I would like.  I just need to highlight them a bit to match my other bookcases.
