Like many others I’ve been waiting many many years for a quality and comprehensive Vietnam War range. By the looks of it my patience is finally going to rewarded. On top of all this the range released by Empress Miniatures is being sculpted by one of my all time favourite sculpters and top chum Mr Paul Hicks!
I’ve painted quite literally hundreds of his Indochina War figures for myself and friends around the globe.

So I know whatever he’ll come up with for this it’s gonna be epic
(No pressure 😉).

Consequently my first stop at Salute was the Empress stall and I collected my preordered figures...and came back for more after I had the chance to look at them more closely 😬
I obviously couldn’t help myself and painted the first mini the same night.

They've painted up lovely, really good job. I think the muted greens really work with those sculpts. I'm impressed. If you're worried about running out I'll get some and you can paint mine!  :D

Thank you, Sir! I’d certainly recommend them. They paint up beautifully  8)
And yes, head swap with a separate head from Empress’s Zulu War range also sculpted by Mr Hicks. Thankfully Victorian hairstyles are not dissimilar to the late ‘60s/ early 70s  ;)

Me too, in a couple of minis. Worst was a chap that had a *blob* of metal in the left eye socket. I didn't notice until the lad was primed and was starting with the face...  lol Well, nothing that couldn't be fixed with a scalpel!

Agreed with the painting. It is truly lovely!

Your Marine with the 'tache is accurate, but could be in trouble.
The Regs at the time were, no hair over the lips and no longer than the edge of the mouth.
In 1975 I was stationed with the 1st Marine Div.
Had the Div. Commander mention to me that my mustache was to long. :o
 I had better do something about it.
I laugh about it now, was not so funny then. :-[

I only got the third M60 team left and they are both wip so the tutorial has to wait until reinforcements arrive I’m afraid but I promise to post one here. No magic tho, all pretty basic and quick. All Citadel paints. In case you’re interested here a list of paints used:

Those sculpts do make it easy. Mr Hicks always has the painter in mind!

Very inspirational! Currently in the process of basing up all my Empress Nam figures and your pics are encouraging me to crack on with the project. Has anybody got any colour suggestions (preferably Vallejo) for painting USMC green? The colour does vary on the photos I've seen.

I use GW (Death Guard Green) for the uniforms but I’m sure there’s a similar Vallejo paint.

Excellent work. The only conversions I’ve dared so far have been the occasional addition of backpacks and LAW rockets.

Vallejo US Dark green and Vallejo Panzer Aces Splinter Strips green work well. Ash’s tip of the GDW green wash has proved an excellent one. Vallejo grey green mixed in with the other two is good for highlights.

I’ve run out of 000 so it was a real pain man. Strangely enough it looks actually okay in real life but that’s probably due to my eyesight.
I certainly wish I had a small decal for this but I’ve got Stars and Stripes only..
