Title: Project Seagull
Post by: Tobsen77 on 16 June 2009, 09:58:35 AM
Hello... long time no see ;) Been busy running the shop and painting my new Blood Bowl Team... but now I'll start a new (small) project: The Seagull

Maybe upgraded with some guns ;)

Put a covered cockpit onto it and it would make a great pulp sf spacecraft  8)

Now that is cool!

Not sure what craft like these would be classified as - not quite a hydrofoil, but not quite a "Wing In Ground Effect" (WIG or WIGE) craft either.

Another use for Copplestone's 28mm pilot figures - the head-and-shoulders-only ones designed for cockpits.

A two-place one - perhaps with a WW1-style machine gun mount around one cockpit - would also be very cool to see!

Hi Grimm,

whenever I find an interesting image on the web it goes directly to my bookmark list... there is enough stuff for years in there. A great source are those "The 10 strangest/silliest/funniest whatever" websites like cracked.com (http://cracked.com) or similar. Another neverending list of strange things is on http://www.darkroastedblend.com/ (http://www.darkroastedblend.com/)... just now this is on their homepage:

I mean... this is seriously crazy stuff:

http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2008/06/coolest-submarines-showcase.html (http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2008/06/coolest-submarines-showcase.html)
http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2007/12/unique-soviet-snowmobiles.html (http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2007/12/unique-soviet-snowmobiles.html)

It's full of these... btw, search google images for "weird vehicles" actually is a good find ;)

Cheers,
Tobi

I was aware of the speedboat featured, and have even thought about modelling it, but this thread has really made me wish I'd started modelling it earlier.

The model so far looks fantastic, a great job and I cannot wait to see it finished.

Well done.

I changes the proportions a little, made it a bit shorter. Looks better to me that way ;) I'll build a closed cockpit for outer space action as well.  :P

That Snow Cruiser features in a Clive Cussler book, where Dirk Pitt uses it to foil the plans of some evil neo-nazis (who are in reality a weird genetic experiment uses the furhers genes). Great pulp action.

Tobsen, that is really impressive. Wow! Looking at it, it's clear how the same technique, and even some small variations on the same design, could produce some really nice vehicles for VSF, Sci-fi - almost anything! The 'skinning' over the plasticard ribs is done incredibly well, and the closed cockpit is exceptionally well done too. Looking forward to seeing some paint on this seagull!

I' a little curious to how you made the pattern for the sides, so that they are proportional and seem to fit so well together.

Now I get it...

Closed cockpit and weapon(s imagine two of them...)

I meant: imagine two guns, one on each wing... I was too lazy to build two seperate guns and wanted to duplicate them in resin ;)
