Title: Question about 3,5t AHN truck for WW2
Post by: FreakyFenton on 28 April 2019, 10:21:28 PM
Hello LAF Hivemind!

I have a question concerning the availability of a model in 1/56 or 28mm scale. It's a 3,5t AHN truck, used by the german army, and I wondered if anyone knew of any models in the mentioned scale. Thus far I could only find ones in 1:35 scale by ICM or 1:72 scale by ACE models.

As ever, help is appreciated!

Thank you ladies and gentlemen in advance!  :D

There is a resin 1/50 kit version. Pretty pricey though.

Thank you Carlos, 66€ does seem a lot. I might have to wait or look for a Diecast option then!  :D

Thank you for your speedy help though!

Cheers,

I'll admit I've no idea about either the size or use of the lorry.
But I'm relatively confident you could mock one up quite easily from a Bedford lorry.
If its a smaller truck in 28 mm then you could rescale a 1/72 plastic kit ( probably a lot cheeper than a 1/50) Or a 1/50 Morris would make a reasonable starting point. As the cab quite a simple shape once you take a second look.
If its any help I'd be happy to talk you through a conversion. Or even a scratch build. As you can see the  engine is quite similar in shape , and this is only a quick cereal packet card build. But its more than possible to build a useable model for a lot less than that resin model.

Mark.

Hrm, I'll take you up on that kind offer, Mark. I'll send you a pm as soon as I am hooked up with a working base, probably the Ace-models one.

Thank you for your help and advice!  :D

Kind regards,

Fenton

Freaky - if you can't manage the scratch build (I know I couldn't!) you really shouldn't have to pay that sort of money for that kit - here's one for half that amount

Thank you Eclaireur, the price seems more reasonable. Albeit still a few quid over the usual one for softskin vehicles. I think I'll give scratchbuilding it a try, and if that leaves me unsatisfied, I might turn to this solution.

Maybe I'll end up doing both!  lol

Thank you for your help though!

Kind regards,

Not directly relevant, but I have just received a couple of these from Pendraken, in 10mm. And already have a couple from Pithead too. So readily and cheaply available in the smaller scales, if that is your thing (or they could just be far away...)

Hrm, I have looked there, however, don't have a 3d Printer, which limits my capabilities in that regard.  :'(

However, I reckon I'll be able to craft something from plasticard after having found some good reference shots of it.

Either way, thank you for the advice poulppy!

Hrm, there is one by Altaya models. However, I do have some spare wheels from Opel Blitz kits, along with some plasticard and parchment, which should make it easy to recreate the above vehicle from such. The only part I'm miffed about, is the lack of accurate measurements. From the photo I reckon it's somewhere close in size to an Opel Blitz, maybe a tad smaller.

Very cool, I thought you had found a 1:1 scale one to buy at first!

Are you going for that paint scheme? I’m half tempted, as I have two already painted in military green, and two un-painted...

Gosh a 1:1 would be a bit overkill. And would surely break the table.  ;D lol ;)

I planned on using the color scheme shown in the picture I posted at the start of this topic, albeit, using it for my Wehrmacht forces, rather than Waffen SS.

I am currently building the chassis, of which I can post some pictures in the days to come.  :D
