Title: 60s Spy game using the ,45 Adventure rules
Post by: Operator5 on June 25, 2009, 07:12:40 PM
In case you did not see the awesome Spy game in Florida, here is the post from The Speakeasy... (the game was not run by me, so any thanks should go to Alex who I believe ran the game.

You have to check out the pictures of the secret base. They rock!

We ran a Kiss Kiss Bang Bang game using .45 Adventure this weekend at Rapier '09, a local con in Jacksonville, Fl.

Pictures can be found at:

Fighting for control of the SPECTRE / KAOS base were CONTROL (Agents 86 and 99), MI6 (James Bond and his companion), The SAS, KAOS, SPECTRE and Henchmen for Hire LLC.

The game centered around a stolen A-Bomb and a laser drill that could bore to the center of the earth. Ernst Stavro Blofeld (SPECTRE) and Conrad Siegfried (KAOS) were competing to see who would have the honor of pushing the button, while the rest wanted to stop them.

We used 2 decks, one deck of normal encounter cards (including the infamous Lava Burp – which almost threw Mr Bond into the lava) and another for the control panels around the base..

One of the encounter cards was a scientist who had disabled the laser/bomb countdown. In order to restart the countdown, the control panel cards were used. Each panel would make it easier or harder to restart the countdown If the operator passed a brains test.

In the game, the countdown was successfully restarted and got down to “2” and the villains were cackling with glee. The Red Hotline Phone in the control room rang with the President on the line saying he was ready to cut a deal. Blofeld replied “Nah, I’d rather blow up the world.” No sooner did those words get uttered when a nameless SAS trooper managed to stop the countdown with 1 tick remaining. The scientist was located, James Bond and Agent 99 both went down and the bomb was pushed into the lava.

The only problem with the game was that no one got close enough to be affected by the Sharks with Frikin Laser Beams. Oh, well. There is always the sequel.

Great scenery and board design... I like the sharks a lot. It is sad that they couldn't get a main scene in the game  lol

That is just awesome!!!!

I like the little touches...

Like the "Newly Married Guy" and the posters.

My favorite has to be the fact that not only are there sharks with Frickken Lasers... but there is a sign bringing attention to the hazardous sharks with Frickken Lasers...

Simply Great!

Amazing attention to detail and very cool.

The only thing i didnt like was the basing as the figures are walking around a factory with big clumps of grass at their feet. :) I really like it but its a pity that they didn't rebase the figures to match the flooring (which is a pain to do I know).

Cheers

It's one of the great conundrums of gaming. How do you base figures? Unless you only play on one type of terrain, eg North European, it's almost impossible to make the bases look natural in any other. Even then, when travelling on roads, or in towns etc , the figures look wrong. If you play skirmish games where the figures enter buildings or spaceships as well as going outside, it's even worse.

As far as I can see, it's an imposible problem to solve satisfactorily, so it's a case of biting the bullet and trying to ignore the vegetation  :(

Exactly my thoughts. I've decided a long time ago that I want my miniatures to have the same bases (which is basically sand/rock plus a little static grass) even though I do have some rather obvious city miniatures. Or even sailors. Nevertheless I rather like the unifying appearance.

Yeah is it something you have to live with and I also base all mine the same so they work on my terrain.

I thought with some skirmish games you could have the same figures painted the same but based differently for different game boards.
