Title: Good bye Rutger Hauer
Post by: Storm Wolf on 24 July 2019, 07:05:30 PM
You have gone like tears in the rain, but not forgotten!

RIP

of course known for Blade Runner which I love, but my faves are Split Second and Wanted Dead or Alive of him starring.

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe are true. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tanhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

Nooo! I was just thinking yesterday about what a great actor he was and how needs to get more work these days. He probably won't now.

'Bladerunner' (of course) is probably is finest hour, but I also like a couple of sword & sorcery B movies of his, 'Flesh and Blood' and 'Ladyhawke'.

Yes, all good work, and he will be sadly missed

Just a few day ago I was thinking to re-watch the "Floris" series, got the DVD ready next to the player. Than this sad news…

All three you mention are some of my favorite movies. I wouldn't call Ladyhawke a 'B' movie :)

Not the greatest actor in the world but he was always entertaining to watch.
Sorry to hear he has past. I really liked him in Fatherland.

I think he was a better actor than he is given credit for, thanks to typecasting. I often thought he should have been the one rather than Schwarzenegger in a few roles.

Vale Roy.

May your cane always find its mark Nick Parker, and may Harley Stone always have an endless supply of chocolate and coffee wherever you are... RIP RH, you will be missed.

Oh no! I loved Ladyhawke as a kid. Strange movie thinking about it now but loved it then.

Damn, sad news. A genre icon gone, and not really that old either.   :'(

Loved Split Second, was that the movie that coined the phrase "bigger f*cking guns!"...? I think it might have been.

Ladyhawke was class, some excellent actors and a decent script hampered by very 80's styling.

Flesh and Blood was a great film, properly grubby side of medieval warfare.

Hell, I even have a soft spot for Blind Fury...

Watched Blade Runner yesterday evening - 2049 was added to Netflix recently, and I wanted to refresh the first before seeing the sequel. First thing I saw right after finishing the movie was the news of his death.

I'm reluctant to watch any other films now.

He supposedly improvised the tears in rain line by the way.

He inspired a whole new sport even.
Thank you Rutger. Safe Journey.

Sad loss,

but he left us lots of memories, inspiration and things to watch and enjoy, so good on him.

That and by all accounts a nice person to.

Time to break out the Lady Hawke CD and enjoy some classic swordfights.

I may be able to count the films of his I like on one hand, but it's sad news indeed. I think those Guinness ads in the 1980s may be the reason I drink the black stuff!

Like is biggest role, which passed in Bladerunner in 2019, he passed and left a big Vakuum. One of the best actors...

I was so sad when I heard this. Always an interesting NG actor even when he was in ropey films.

Obviously he is tremendous in Blade runner. And I loved The Hitcher when I was younger.

My absolute favorite of his films is Soldier of Orange, which is tremendous. Also I have. A lot of time for Flesh and Blood and Ladyhawke.

Soldier of Orange is a brilliant film, as was his work in Blade Runner.  I quite enjoyed both Ladyhawke (which was almost ruined by the music - yet has some hauntingly beautiful images) and Flesh & Blood.  His work in Sobibor was also quite good.  I always felt he could have had a better career, if casting directors would have given him more scope.

By the way, Last Sword Miniatures are about to release a tribute mini of Rutger based on Navarre from "Lady Hawke".

Sad news right enough, another one gone. Was thinking about a good film he was in but couldn't remember what was called, haven't seen it in ages, he played a mercenary in 16th century Europe setting?
