Title: Making Rope Piles
Post by: Teardrop World on 25 September 2019, 08:52:21 PM
Making small rope piles for docks and ships.
What you need:
White glue
a plastic sheet (blister or ordinary garbage)
Big brush or round dowel (slick)
Cotton thread (non plush kind)
Two disposable cups for glue mix.

1. Mix white glue with water, one cup very liquid and the other about fifty/fifty
2. Cut a few inches/cm of thread and briefly soak it in the liquid glue
3. Wrap it around the brush/dowel. The liquid glue help to maintain the thread. "Paint" the thread with the non liquid glue.
4. Don't wait, and gently push the thread on the plastic sheet.
5. Let it dry. The rope pile will stay soft. Add more glue if needed.
6. Undercoat and paint it.
Those showed here are for 15mm. The thread are a kitchen rope (to attach meat), and a cotton sewing thread (thinner).
Best thread are from wooden ships models, but somewhat hard to find.
Cheers
