Hey guys.
Since I finally received my second Artizan Thrilling Tales pack and I really want to paint the Nacht Jagers I wonder if there is a suitable camouflage for soldiers wandering around in enemy territory at night, except total black clothing, of course, something 'interesting'?
Any ideas?
Come on guys, there are so many experts in this forum, there must be something ;-)

Why not just paint an SS pea pattern or splinter pattern but use shades of grey and dark blue instead of the usual colours?
-
yes I think that is a good Idea Zoogla do it !!!!
-
I'd do a search for Luftwaffe night fighter patterns, and use one of those. They're very heavy on smoky grays in spots and wavy lines. Very cool.
-
I'd agree with Pete, Luftwaffe night fighter patterns would be the way to go. I'd use dark greys and blues, stay away from pure black, surprisingly it stands out too much at night, the colour is too dense for camouflage.

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. Will look for some Luftwaffe night fighter patterns and keep you posted about any progress!
Cheers

Having a bit more thought on the subject, and seeing they're pulp figures, maybe using WW1 camo colours could be the way to go.
Either the 'cubist' style camo the storm troopers had on their helmets in the trenches or maybe the lozenge camo that was painted on some German fighters but done in the greys and blues discussed earlier. :)

WHAT! Using "Entartete Kunst" like cubism on stalwarrrt defenderrrs of the Rrreich! If the Fuehrer knew!!! ;)
Now that´s an interesting idea. I´m afraid "meander camo" will look to conspicious on 28mm infantry. Maybe using splinter camo in various shades of dark grey and green? :?:
Mind you that I LOVE meander on airplanes and have just chickened out of using it on my Gefliegentersaucen because I was afraid I´d botch it.

@ Ray Earle: Any pictures for reference? Just finished the last of my 'Dangerous Dames' yesterday and about to start with the Nach Jagers. I think it will take some time to find a suitable pattern, but pictures would definately help ;-)
Thanks Z. (Doing the google now)

Ok, first off is a picture of the sort of WW1 helmet I was on about;

Next there are two links on the lozenge style camo used on German aircraft that I have blatantly borrowed...

I think the cubist style camo would look fairly effective painted onto the armour plates and helmet of the nacht jager with the cloth uniform a standard German grey/green. Looking forward to see what you come up with. :)

YEAH, now THAT looks cool. pulpy as pulp can be.

Hi Guys!
I managed to paint one of the Nacht Jaegers last night. Took me 2 hours from start to finish. Have to rework the Rifle though and some details, but I really like him. Please tell me what you think. Even if you don't like it, I'd like to hear it and WHY, I still have two of these guys waiting on the desk ;-)
Cheers
Axel

Nothing to comment on your piainting, it looks very good, but...
For nightfighters, wouldn't it it be a better choice to go with the greys and darkblues instead of the standard yellows and greens?
Thats my .20 cents anyway.

Damn awesome, and it fits the uniform/equipment style perfectly.
Maybe the ochre is a bit bright, but the overall look is excellent, and even looks "Reichwehr" to me rather than "Wehrmacht", so you could always use it for 1920s´ "President Hindenburgs Secret Zeppelinkommandotruppen".
-
Thanks guys, for your comments.
@ wayswatcher: I know some darker shades would match a 'night hunter' better, but I feared it might look dull and uninteresting that's why I went for the chosen approach!
And special thanks to Chris, now I might use the scheme for my Zeppelin Truppen as well ;-) And of course I will choose a slightly darker shade of ochre for the pattern!!!

god, that's a clean work! well done, Axel!

Excellent stuff! The camo looks amazing, and for what it's worth I think using the standard colours works really well. After all, they are pulp.
Looking forward to seeing the others when they are done. :D

awesome paintjob! works really well!
-
They are beautiful, a fantastic job on the camo, I originally suggested blues and greys but take it all back, they look very Pulp :)
-
  Don't change a thing, the colours work superbly.
