The Battle of Alfreck fought in 1597 is an interesting encounter predominately between the McDonnells of Antrim and the English Garrison of Carrickfergus. It arose out of pre- arranged parley where both sides mistrusted each other and at least one side definitely intended treachery.
In most histories of the period it gets a few lines or is overlooked altogether. I thought it was worth having a closer look at what happened and why it turned out the way it did. I hope you find it of interest.

Thanks for sharing - another interesting battle.
As I read it I am imagining it playing out as an Irregular Wars battle.

You're welcome Fred. Yes I can see it too using Irregular Wars I think it would work well.

I wholeheartedly agree :)

Thank you lads for the kind words it is much appreciated.
My intention is that once I've analyzed the battles, so far as I can, I'll produce an OOB for each one so folk can try them out using whatever rules they prefer.
I've also got a couple of posts coming on troop types. That's more involved than it sounds as there were three different types of army for each side by my reckoning.

Thank you for the effort you are putting in.

It's a pleasure all the more so that others are enjoying it.

I do enjoy. It is great to have these smaller battles, there
is a chance I will paint enough to recreate them.
The back story is useful for putting players into the
scenario & getting them to think, 'What would I do?'
in that situation.

Thanks, that is heartening. I think the period is worthy of more attention than it has got so far. That's probably because it is not well known or understood. I think people will enjoy gaming it as it brings some interesting challenges to the table.
