Making a bridge, and starting with what I think is the hardest part, the arch. Found some plumbing pipe which is the perfect diameter, but then sussed what a pain it was to cut it with any real accuracy, so cut some 1mm styrene instead and used the pipe as a former and solidified it by adding milliput.

Exciting, eh?

Very. ;)
-
interesting start :-* :-* :-*

Got myself a chunk of 3mm foamed pvc and marked out the shape of the bridge, and guidelines for the stonework on both sides...

Basically textured it, I'll add more as I go.

Scribed the stonework

:-* Very tasty

great start the texture looks great

Thanks. It's based on what is now quite a rare style of stone bridge. The ones which survive are typically foot bridges and it's because of their light traffic and remoteness that some have survived, thankfully.

The most famous one is probably the Mostar bridge, which you might recall suffered heavy damage during the Yugoslav wars, although it doesn't have as sharp a peak.

Great looking texture Phil
:)
-
Wow, man. That's pretty cool.
-
Great start 8)
Quite reminds me of the Bridge Over The Atlantic on the West Coast of Scotland.
-
Cool texturing. But I cannot tell the difference!

lol

Looks great.
-
Looks great Phil! I'm also including a bridge in my build, possibly with goats ;)
-
great start
-
Scribed the other side but only down to where the road bed is... and took a blurry photo of it.

Fun with a protractor for the arch stones...

Rough cut...

Et voila!

Nicely done.
-
Very tidy 8)
-
Like it!
-
Very nice indeed
-
Impressive.
-
Thanks folks.
Had a further bash at this. Did some buttresses...

Stuck 'em on...

Filling the arch, great fun, deffo not doing texture and stones under the arch as it won't be seen...

Starting on the capping stones...

Starting to get "Build blindness" with all this white on white you eventually can't see how it's going so really looking forward to sealing this with primer and having it spring to life again.
-
That is looking very nifty Phil.
-
very neat progress
-
Looking rather good...
-
Thanks guys. ;)
Textured, scribed and attached the capping stones...

Also filled underneath those to make for easy casting, I'll cast this for the other half, tried to do it so it sits in the shadow and isn't immediately obvious...

One thing which bugs me about a lot of bridges in 6mil is how they're often too narrow to put a base of troops on, I'm aiming at fitting a 40mil base. Hence the length of the span. A short and wide bridge wouldn't look quite right, this will have correct proportions so be acceptable to the eye, well mine at least.

Very nice
-
Coming along very well.
-
Really looming good so far. Great idea to cast two halves.
-
Excellent progress Phil, possibly my favourite project so fat
:)
-
I like it. Keep going!
-
Excellent build so far. Really good work with the scribing of the stonework. I know how unforgiving it is of mistakes. 8)
-
Thanks folks. :)

Foamed PVC isn't too bad for that, especially compared to insulation foams.
Primed for a bit of sealing, top edge of the arch needs a tidy which I'll do on the casts to minimalise visits from Uncle F@!k-up.

Into rubber with it next!
-
Ah yes, veery grand! Are you tempted to dry brush it?
-
Kinda, but I think sandstone colours will work best, warmer than just greys. ;)
-
Totally looks the business 8)
-
lovely build but is it not supposed to be wrecked?
-
Is it? I may have missed that bit... lol
-
This looks very great!
-
Been a bit distracted to post so here's a pile of updatery...
Made a couple of casts and did a dry fit with the arch...
...joined it all up and started filling and reenforcing...
...building this so it can take bases, this is 40mm wide, always been irritated by 6mil bridges typically being too narrow to put a base on especially if you're fighting over a bridge you want to get on it - don't you?
Bit of fiddling to check angles so bases won't slide...
...yep that'd work.
Mask off the sides to fill the road bed with regular filler with PVA mixed in...

Rob from 2d6 messaged me about buying the master, which I'm only too happy to sell, more info on that: https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=123105.0 (https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=123105.0)

Works well, would suit 10mm as well I think, that's 6mil cav in the photo...
Now to make a ruin... should have read the instructions. ::)
-
That's come along very nicely; hard to believe it is 6mm with that detail in the stonework. Now to make a ruin... should have read the instructions. ::)
Knock a coping stone off- call it damaged. :D
-
That's a suggestion I might have benefited from an hour or two earlier. ;)
