So I have decided my confinement project will be the Deluge perod in the Polish-Lithuanina Commonwealth 1655-60. I already have a few figures collected for the later period so a head start. Thoughts and pictureson the blog.

Wow. Impressive painting.
I have a Polish force in 15 mm for By Fire and Sword, but I must admit they look awesome in 28 mm.
Cheers
Erik
-
It was the By Fire and Sword adverts that got me thinking Erik, initial plan is to try scaling the rules up for 28mm. I did briefly consider 15mm as the figures for this range are fantastic but as I already had 14 units in 28mm it made more sense to expand what I have.
-
This looks like a great project. It's an area where I have always been interested but never dipped my toe into the water, so to speak. I shall be following this with interest.
-
Handsome paintwork Roger :-*
-
I'll be watching this one, looks neat so far! I briefly considered scaling up BFaS to 28mm for my own collection, before concluding that the rule set is too detailed for my brain. Still appreciate those books as a reference though!
-
Love your figures.
As for Polish dragoons, how about French dragoons from WSS.
They have fur hats, don't know about the boots.
PS Just checked Ebor Miniatures.
His French have a side bag off the hats.
No good for Poles.
-
Another option for polish dragoons are those for Anno Domini game, unfortunately they are dismounted.
-
Thanks for the comments guys, it certainly helps me keep my enthusiasm.
I havent really read the rules properly so I dont yet know if they are going to be a good fit for me, however as they fit with my current basing nothing lost if they end up being too complicated. Everythign I have so far or initially plan to get can also still be used in my Great Northern War collection so again nothing lost here. I can always try other rule sets if these do not play as we hope.
Marine0846 I have a bunch of Ebor Dragoons for the later period, all the troopers come without heads so great for the head swaps and I ahve already done a unit of Polish Dragoons for 1706. However the big difference for the ater period is they have cartridge boxes (plus the longer coats and wide cuffs I suppose) the cartridge box is too bulky to carve off. I am tempted by the Bohemiam Dragoons sculpted by Paul Hicks for Horcata miniatures.
The Anno Domini figures are lovely but the bases are not ideal for multi basing and at over £5 eachwould make this a super expensive unit.
On balance I think converting English Civil War/ Thirty Yeasr War Dragoons is my best bet.

Actually the rules are not too bad, much of the rule book covers special rules that only apply to certain troops - if you don't have foot that can countermarch or fire salvos you don't need to learn those rules. I normally play using Tartars so don't get any foot at all.
Once you get the hang of the basics it quickly slots into place. If you're ever in Scarborough (after the curfew lists) I'm happy to show you the rules at our local club.
-
Awesoem, I may take you up on that thank you.

A further update on this project loaded to the blog

Nice additions to the force. Incidentally how large are your units - Cavalry and Infantry?
-
Pretty small units. All on 3 bases. Foot around 16-18 figures horse usually 8 with three each on the outside base and 2 or 3 on the centre one.
-
First couple of extra figures finished now and on the blog (along with some other stuff)
Details here https://gapagnw.blogspot.com/2020/04/workbench-odds-and-sods.html
Here is one of them.

Just finalised a blog post around the Deluge project with Poles and Cossacks, I took the opportuntiy to talk through my approach to painting horses and figures in brief if anyone is interested its here, I dont pretend to be an expert in anyway, this is just my take. Its a fairly long one, hope it provides soem light relief for anyone self isolating. Special mention to Ken Riley my old painting mentor.

Looking good Roger, well done. It’s quite an eclectic collection of figures...
Much as I love Nick Collier’s sculpting and TAG’s wonderful output, I have to say those now venerable Copplestone Cossack sculpts from Foundry really do take some beating for sheer character :)
The Old Glory figures, not so much, alas :(
-
Cheers Matt.
Captain Blood, I couldnt agree more. Pike is the main gap if I am to use Foundry and as chum Jerry had gifted me a bag of Old Glory the Yorkshireman kicked in "Waste not want not" I am tempted to add Warfare Cossacks to the mismatched mass, another bunch of nice figures. A couple of the Redoubt Zaporojians also look nice, although others not so much. Lets see where this goes.
-
Some more figures off the Workbench, progress being made, pictures and write up on the blog as always.

There are some wonderful conversions in that group. Are some of them based on plastic figures and if so who makes them?
Ah - cancel my question I went back and re-read your write ups and have found the answers. :-X :-X
-
Amazing and very characterful conversions all of them, congrats!
Especially the rider leaning back with the pistol, stunning!
-
Thanks Chaps.
Hu Rhu the details of the individual figures are on the blog, quite a lot of different ranges used, this particular figure is a Gripping Beast Arab Light cavalryman, using the ottoman torso and Turk scalplock head and adding a meal arm with pistol.
-
I have updated the blog with more Poles and Cossacks for, experimenting with nail art for the horse blankets (thanks Paul) and the first of the converted Crusades muslim horse archers finished.

We do what we must to keep the enthusiasm up. I like your effects acheived with the nail-art transfers. I got some to try on 16th C. Gendarmes but hadn't considered glamming up Eastern cavalry with them.
-
Some more Pancerni with nail art on the way, I am also considering using the nail art for my Sikh armoured cavalry.

Another unit painted and ready for the basing department. More pictures on the blog.
