Hi all,
I've been looking at my kit stash and am more and more tempted to game Operation Kadesh, being the Israeli invasion of Egypt in 1956. Where I'm coming undone is that there is a real shortage of photos or plates covering the uniforms used by both sides.
As I'm contemplating commissioning figures for the conflict, does anyone have any good references for Egyptian or Israeli infantry? The handful of news reel footage I've seen seems to show both sides as being reminiscent of WW2 British soldiers in North Africa/Tunisia/Italy, although there are a handful of photos of both sides using US M1 helmets.
I'd be interested in any information or sources people may have.
Cheers,
Splod

Hi, the only books I have found are the old Osprey MAA numbers 127 and 128. There is one plate showing an Egyptian infantryman from Sinai. The plate description says that a new sand coloured field outfit was introduced in 1955. Headgear was a field cap or Russian helmet. Personal equipment was limited to the large Soviet style haversack, with a copy of the US canteen. Small arms were mainly Russian. In the Israeli volume there is again one plate for 1956 with one picture of an infantryman. The text says that they wore khaki drill fatigues, with a mixture of US and British webbing. British helmets, US helmets. US cap comforters and "kibbutz sun hats" were all worn in the front line
I think you can find the plates I mention vis Google.
