Herewith, some Imperial Assault Star Wars miniatures.
First up a walking rug with a nasty attitude. No doubt rebel scum.

Helping the glorious Empire find rebel scum like wookies some scout droids.

Notice the chipped paint and weathering.

Helping command the forces of order. Note the miniature on the right has darker uniform and therefore is more high ranking.

An All Terrain Defence Pod AT-DP.
"Yes, they're remarkable machines—faster and better armoured than the old AT-RTs."
"What about firepower? That ball cannon looks mean."
"I've seen a single shot punch through medium vehicle plating. That mean enough for you?"

AT-DP and ATST hand in hand. Great for providing support to the stormtroopers and destroying rebel scum.
Long live the Emperor.
Still need to work on the bases - want something relatively generic so "fits" multiple settings especially as the Empire is needed to maintain law and order in so many different settings.
-
I decided to build an X-Wing. Should be ideal for an airstrike on the AT-ST

The Force is strong in this one....
Great work yet again mate!
-
Good looking stuff there
-
Very nice AT's. Did they fix the known issue with the top hatch locking mechanism failing to engage on the new model?
-
Cheers Syrinx0
I have no idea. Both my hatches came shut. I have not tried opening them. Maybe I should. LOL.
-
Great stuff, mate!
-
Very cool!
I look forward to seeing more!
-
Thank you Easy E.
Herewith, Tehnolog Robogear T-Rex and Locust. These are ideal for numerous Sci-Fi settings. Great as big stompy robot mech sort vehicles. In scale they match anything ranging from 25mm through to the new "giant" 40k. Judging by the miniature they come with they are around 1/48th in scale.
At any rate I managed to get two for under £10 with postage from Russia on ebay, very pleased. They will require a fair amount of work to get up to scratch. especially in terms of getting rid of join lines etc. but with a little bit of effort they can look rather good. These models provide numerous kit bashing options, for more on what this modeller did see: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/mecha/pl_robo.htm
For some inspiration - Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7ErIeP2Lzw
Official Tehnolog website, see: http://www.tehnolog.ru/index.php
The Tehnolog Robogear range, see: http://www.tehnolog.ru/product/robogear.php
Tech sheets for each of their walking tanks, the write ups are rather fun, includes some good photos of painted miniatures, see: http://www.robogear.ru/eng/skelet/2/protectorat/index_t_rex.php
Do note that Airfix released these a number of years ago - but do not bother trying to find those as they tend to go for high collector prices.
Studio Siberia also stocks them, see: http://siberia-miniatures.ru/advanced_search_result.php?search_in_description=1&keywords=robogear&x=0&y=0
For an overview of the game for which they are meant see: https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/14398/robogear
Tehnolog also have the rules available to download here: http://www.tehnolog.ru/download/rules.php
At any rate here they are with painted new generation space marines from GW. Despite being unpainted they actually match the colouring of the space marines relatively well for now.

Herewith some pictures of them in the first game played. The idea behind this game is a future Mars Rebellion. Blue Marines are the forces of earth and Red Marines the Martians fighting for Marsian independence. Rules used were homebrew and I think I should type them up and share them here, as they worked rather well.

The Bio-dome looked better than this picture did justice as it had a light shining inside it. It is from I believe a hamster ball. It seems hard to find see through domes suitable for this sort of Sci-Fi terrain.
More pictures available here: https://frictionbmcminiatures.blogspot.com/2020/05/blog-post.html
-
Having owned hamsters through most of my formative years, I definitely will confirm it. Twas my first thought upon seeing the pic before I read the post!
-
Great stuff! Unlike the Technolog models from what I have seen online. Your color concept and basic plot premise is cool. The hamster ball dome with lighting is genius!

Herewith, Starlink Battle for Atlas Miniatures which I repainted. Starlink is evidently some sort of consul game - Starlink: Battle for Atlas is a new action-adventure game where you assemble a custom starship mounted to your game controller to launch into an interplanetary adventure. At any rate, the miniatures are about the right size and I picked them up in a pound shop. The female miniature originally had white hair and a guitar she now has a more suitable Sci-Fi weapon and pink hair. I have kept the guitar which may be useful for something in the future. They evidently also made some spaceship sort of things which could potentially be useful. I picked up a few other bits some of which look like large guns which could come in handy.

I picked up some of those from Poundland too,
though I didn't even consider removing the guitar.
You, by the way, have done a much better paint
job on them than I did. :-*
-
Great work mate! You have created some excellent pieces.
-
Nice work.
Great use of plastic forks(?) for the necron spider legs.
Thanks for sharing
Z
-
Great job on the poundland minis and the scratch built spider - impressive indeed.
-
Thank you Has Been yes they are well worth picking up if one can find them - so glad to hear I am not the only one who considered these particular minis. Did you also keep the section of the base from the original odd base these miniatures come on? I am also thinking the clear shield pieces from the original bases could be useful for something... Did you keep yours? Hope that is not too ambiguous...
Thank you Grumpy Gnome as always.
Thank you Zrunelord I had been worried that they would not look very good and even at one point considered ripping one or two I had done off - but I persevered and it seems to have paid off.
Thank you Spinal Tap given your avatar it is perhaps obvious you would like anything even vaguely, resembling a spider... lol
Herewith, some more Sci-Fi Miniatures by Mantic, namely Star Saga. These are some of the character models from the game. These are great for a number of settings and systems. I am happy with the bases as I tried to match them in appearance to the game tiles.

That dwarf guy looks really good. I like the HMGs too.

I like the latest offerings. :-*
Did you also keep the section of the base from the original odd base these miniatures come on? I am also thinking the clear shield pieces from the original bases could be useful for something... Did you keep yours? Hope that is not too ambiguous...
I did save them, I don't throw things away.
They are making an appearance right now, on my entry

Don't think I will be able to come up with a use as cracking as yours.

Thanks Golgotha. :)

Cheers Blacksoilbill I was surprised he came out as well as he did considering how he looks unpainted. I do like his bag and bits.

Mantic Veer-Myn
'You dirty rats!' Love them, great job.
-
Dirty space rats indeed - I did try and make 'em to look a bit filthy...
Herewith, some more Sci-Fi Miniatures by Mantic, namely Star Saga. These are some of the enemies of the character models from the game. These are great for a number of settings and systems, including of course Deadzone. I will likely paint their bases the same as the character models. Plague and others...
The blood on the floor and wall here is perhaps apt.

Have to comment again as those Star Saga miniatures are superb.
I have used a few from the Star Saga box for games but not as well as you have.
-
Great stuff!
I love the spider tank
I took the same apprach with my star saga miniature bases, but yours look better.
Great idea to put the fiddly mines on a base.

Cheers Sgt_T, Problem doing the bases like this is now that I have started I need them to all look like this and they take longer than I would like. I was sick of losing the mine thingies lol. I am very happy with the spider tank as you call it - the two games played with it however saw it being destroyed and not doing very well - next time I will boost its stats lol.
Thank you Spinal Tap such kind comments do make the difference. Glad you like them - hope to complete all the Star Saga miniatures, but the box set is surprisingly generous in how many they give you. Especially, when I consider that I bought mine in a Mantic sale for next to nothing. I am looking forward to all the little terrain pieces, which are very useful.
Herewith, a big fella I found, he is some old toy, not sure what exactly... Thought I would repaint him and experiment with lighting and taking pictures. He could also work for a fantasy setting but I gave him a Sci-Fi base to match the Star Saga tiles. He is no doubt suitable for a number of systems and settings. Especially, as I do not have that many Sci-Fi miniatures, especially when compared to fantasy.

Herewith, some Mantic Miniatures, I picked up DreadBall First edition on sale for next to nothing from Mantic when they replaced it with the second edition. I am not at all into sport, so not my cup of tea but thought all the bits would be useful for Sci-Fi gaming especially to have some alien sorts and or civilian miniatures. These are therefore useful perhaps for a number of systems. I did not spend overly long painting them but did want them painted to a relatively good standard - overall happy with the results and utility these miniatures might offer. Already used them in some Star War orientated games one of which the scenario was a prison break which worked well. See: https://frictionbmcminiatures.blogspot.com/2022/02/golgothas-sci-fi-star-wars-another.html
I might play DreadBall at some point I did play in a BloodBowl league at University (WARP Wits University Wargaming and Roleplaying Society) and had the worst team in the competition. My orc team the Grugermurag team - called as such as this was their captain's name. He died in the very first match and the team was then known as the Grugermurag Memorial Team - Happier days...

This is my favourite of these miniatures - and he is definitely no civilian - more of a space pirate.

Wow, that big stompy robot looks great. That’s really brilliant what you’ve done with a bunch of bits!
-
Great creativity there.
-
Brilliant work with that robot mate!
-
Cheers Pattus Magnus, Has Been and Grumpy Gnome. I still want to add a few more details to it like a small anti-personnel Gatling gun in the nose with some antennae, some ammo belts on the four rifled arm weapon and possibly a banner.
-
Great build :-*
-
Try the black site games sci-fi section...blade runner, alien intruder, space truckers...etc.
"I find the science team particularly useful. Been desperate to find miniatures I can use as civilians."
-
So much good stuff in this thread!
-
What a cool thread! That robot is perfect, love the size and how alien it looks. Could be straight from Half-Life 2.
And totally get you bought Dreadball Xtreme, a fantastic box for sci-fi games (with some cool scatter scenery too). And the game is great too! I really prefer it to Bloodbowl. Where Bloodbowl is quite slow and to me very tedious and a lot happens based on luck (some unlucky dice rolls and it's a turn over). Dreadball is much faster, dynamic and less dependant on those gotcha moments. And with exploding dice you have a lot of epic moments in the game. Recommended!
-
Cheers Malebolgia I still need to a ctually play Dreadball Xtreme - does look better than Bloodbowl - I took part at University at our wargames club in a Bloodbowl league my orc team was named after its captain Grugermarug who died in the first game so the team became known as the Grugermarug Memorial Team I am happy to say I came at the very bottom of said league lol
Thank you Easy E, Aliensurfer,
Gun Bunny - the science team are really useful I imagine they could be good in superhero and pulp games too.
Well, herewith something bit different - tiny spaceships - but my hope is to play some sort of campaign starting with space battles that then lead to the invasion of a planet.

Herewith some more tine space ships from the board game Buck Rogers as well as a scratch-built ship suitable for a number of games including X-Wing Star Wars and Star Trek. Any spaceship game I suppose... Made from three or four random bits of mostly old toys... At any rate, I am happy with the windows and cockpits on the tiny Buck Rogers ships as these are very small.

The miniature was largely painted while still on the sprue after undercoating grey. Much easier and quicker to paint. With then touchups and more shading done once he was put together...

It looks like painting the figure on the sprue worked really well. (was it any more difficult to clean up mould lines than if the parts were cut off?)
I’m in the middle of assembling a pile of Oathmark figs and kind of wish I could do something similar with those! Not really an option, though, with 5 figures per sprue and a load of parts (and I often change my mind about which parts to use - need to see them dry-fitted before making the final decision).
In any case, the completed model looks great!

Looks great!
I'm intrigued by the on-the-sprue technique; a friend of mine swears by it, but I always imagine disasters involving glue dissolving paintwork and fingers abrading it!
-
Cheers Pattus Magnus and Hobgoblin.
This paint on the sprue method certainly has pros and cons, as this was a GW snap fit marine there was little to clean up. Though with him being such a tight fit do sand down the pins a bit for a better fit. Getting rid of mold lines when on the sprue can also be easier. The problems can start with any areas requiring gluing as one needs to ideally make sure these areas are paint free - if using the sorts of plastic cement that melts the plastic together.
Option parts do complicate things – do I paint all the options and then decide or paint only one hoping it will work – I suppose once one is familiar with a set and has put a few together then these decisions become easier. Getting every area of the miniature painted is also easier especially with the newer GW minis as many seem to have some very awkward nooks and crannies to try and get a brush into…
I first started doing this method with 1/72 miniatures and found it much quicker and easier. Any method that helps one get through the lead pile is perhaps worth trying at least once.
Herewith the last of what I will be painting from the Buck Rogers Board game, the space-stations these could be potentially useful as gun emplacements for a number of sci-fi settings. They are a tad rough and ready but better than unpainted.

The emplacements look great, very sci-fi.
Thank you for the info about painting on the sprue. Your point about making sure points that will be glued are paint-free makes sense. A blob of blue-tac on those spots before priming (and left on during painting) would probably be a good way to mask them. I find blue-tac is very versatile for that kind of job, since it conforms to uneven surfaces.

That is a great idea Pattus Magnus. Cheers.
Herewith EM4 Miniatures Space Rangers - A cheap alternative to GW Space Marines. At any rate at the price (£3.99 for 5 miniatures) a fun cheap must for any Sci-Fi collector.

Compared to GW Space Marine so perhaps better suited to the older GW minis in terms of size.

Silly price though, they look great!

I've just built and primed some GW Orks from Kill Team Octarius and some of the Ork character models from last year.
Touching up the primer was a royal pain, and painting some areas will be pretty much impossible.
I have started to wonder if I should have gone for sub-assemblies, but one of the problems with building the Orks is 140+ parts spread randomly across three sprues (to defeat the box splitters, so I've heard). Arm down to the wrist, then separate wrist and part of the hand, with the rest of the hand holding a weapon that's in multiple parts o_o
The fit was generally excellent, but two parts did need some filler (not sure it that was GW or my gluing), so I imagine that would be unpleasant if everything was painted before discovering that.
I still don't know what the answer is, but your appoach is definitely one I shall consider for models with small part counts.
On that technique, do you just basecoat before building, or do you do the full shade and highlight before reaching for the glue?
