Title: New to Modification of Miniatures
Post by: warrenss2 on 30 July 2009, 05:08:28 PM
I need some help.

I am REALLY a noob to modifying miniatures. Most I have done is replacing a limb or head.

I am trying to make these folks for my Post Apocalyptic miniature game.
Demon Dogs! It's Thundarr the Barbarian!

I'm working on Ookla (spelling?), the big guy in the middle, but I'm really nervous about making the green stuff look good for his boots, shorts, belt, & belt buckle. I've only done really minor things with green stuff (fill in gaps, etc...).

Would you recommend putting it on in layers? Do the shorts, let dry, do the belt, let dry, do the buckle, let dry.

How were the edges made to look so blasted straight? Sandpaper? Files?

Any advise would be appreciated! I want these guys to look good.

Thanks
Warren

Yep, that's exactly how I've seen it done.

How were the edges made to look so blasted straight?

With a scalpel after the putty's gone off a bit.

Your post has confused me a little. Am I looking at a previous attempt and you want to do a better version or are you trying to re-create the big guy?

This thread from Bill @ Musketeer Miniatures is very informative

I'm trying to recreate them.

The pic is someone else work that I want to copy and add to my game.

Hey, Silent Invader.

Paul's site is pretty in depth. Could you give a guy a direct link?

Thanks,
Warren

You want to get yourself a good sculpting tool and get used to making shapes with it. You also want a few clay shapers to help smooth out the green.

Brown stuff is very useful for sharp edges as it can be sanded.  ;)
