I'd just like to know. There is a nice blog mod for forum software but I don't want to overload LAF with features that won't be used. And it's lot of work to install and setting it up. There you would have lots of usual possibilities like posting of articles, creating categories, comments etc. Please let me know. Thanks!

Ok so here let me start of with what may seem stupid to some.
Simply i ask.....
What can you do with a Blog that you cant do with the forum you have here set up?
You said post articles as an example. Cant i post articles now?
I see blogs, i dont have one mind ya cause ok fine i dont know how, but i always thought a blog is a liter version of a forum. One person uses a blog to show off what they have to offer where as a forum is where a bunch of people show off what they offer. :-)

For what it's worth, Prof, I think a Blog system here would be great. It'd be a good way to keep fellow members up to date on ongoing stuff.

Greetings
I voted no. And I tell you why.
I've seen the Blog's in a couple of other forums. True it is something cute and yes it would be a nifty addon. BUT after the usual hype about it (oh, gee look at that) most of the Users won't use it again or so rarely that it wont cover the amount of time and work to let it run.
That being said nothing prohibits people to open their own blog's and post the link here on the forum (as some have done already).

I agree with what he said. :)
I agree with what they said.
Can I ask a stupid question, what is different about a blog?
Sorry questions, what would it bring to the forum?
and what exactly is a blog??
Told you they were stupid questions :D

It seem to me that the LAF have rapidly grown in members lately and that there is a lot of new posts to read each morning while drinking our coffee... or tea. In the light of the recent problem, regarding the shutting down of the forum for a few days, would it make matters worst to have a blog added to the forum? That being said, I don’t know a thing about computer, Internet and the way they work… lol

IMHO, nothing. So I voted "No."
I can see why some individuals prefer blogging to having their own Website. (Though I think they often make the "wrong" decision as I firmly believe that Blogs are more suited to text than images. With this hobby a Website is always the way to go.)
But for sites like this with a thriving Forum a Blog will add nothing. And involve even more work for the Prof.

Do we need a blog? NO.
Do we need a Facebook site? NO.
Do we need to twitter? NO.
Do we need to ... ? NO.
I for my part would much more like to see the Prof's own blog revitalised ... ;D

Colin, a blog is basically an online diary or journal, a lot of people tend to use them in lieu of a website as generally they're simpler and easier to update and quite often you don't have to get your hands dirty with codes/script. Basically a user is meant to update their blog on a regular basis, some update religiously while most update once or twice a decade year.
I agree with the others in this forum I don't think that individual blogs would bring anything to the forum after all can't you just use a topic/post to update everyone? Additionally I'm sure the Prof could use the time required to install the blogging script for other things.... such as painting and gaming ;).
It's a nice idea but i think that adding a blogging feature is the wrong way to go! (after all there are tons of free blog provides such as blogger etc)
Cheers

Hey Prof,
I see you said you get the idea of NO and shut down the voting booth there. But i notice that 2 people said yes. I think Doc is one of them and then one other. I would personally like to hear form them as to why they said yes. Might have a point of view that I or others are missing.
Now with that said. Doc, you mentioned above as one example to keep people up to date on what is going on. Now cant you do this already with a forum? How would a blog make this easier or do this in a way that the forum already can do. Appreciate some enlightenment. One of these days i will have to learn how to do one of these blog things myself. :-)

I only just noticed Doc's website being the one from Black Army Productions. This, and the fact that Empress regularly posts here made me think about something. What about giving those two (if they want and if it is possible) a sub-forum on their own? Meaning they would be mods for that sub-forum (and that alone). So everyone is informed of new goodies and such..
My thought is modelled on the forum of Doom where you do have a couple of companies sharing the same board but each their own forum.
Okay, I stop here as this looks like thread-jacking. ;) But there is food for thoughts here..
