Title: New Afrika Korps bolt action project
Post by: steve501 on 29 June 2020, 08:40:42 PM
Hi All
Please can I ask for some advice/thoughts, I am starting a new Bolt Action Afrika Korps project and the whole Platoon is to be motorised - I am planning at least 3 Sdkfz 251 haltracks but for the other 3 units should I go halftracks or a mix with a couple of lorries. Would a platoon be either halftrack or lorry not mixed ?
Also what would be a suitable towing vehicle for a Pak38

Thanks in advance for all thoughts and advice
Steve

Generally a platoon would be all trucks or tracks. But half-tracks were in very short supply. Trucks were far more common, and captured British trucks were used as well as German ones.

For a tow vehicle, Sdkfz10 is a nice option.

You can use a mixture of trucks and half tracks. Half tracks are quite expensive. So some trucks may make your force a bit more affordable. Your Pak38 can be pulled by either a half track or truck, but truck is more cost effective. Or for something slightly more unusual you could go for a Kettenkrad or heavy field car, both cheaper options. According to the generic army lists you can also use horse drawn limbers too, but they are slow, but very cheap, 10pts regular. Hope that helps.
