Title: GASLIGHT rules compendium news
Post by: Malamute on August 07, 2009, 08:46:08 AM
There has been talk of a forthcoming rules compendium of GASLIGHT.

Here is a message from one of the authors on the GASLIGHT Yahoo group:

The Compendium will be out for Historicon 2010 if all goes well.

There will be aerial rules for both the GASLIGHT and fleet battles scales of
games. Both sets are going through play testing now.

If anyone on the list has things they'd like to see addressed in the rules,
please post them here. The Compendium will be a re-write (not a GW redesign) of
the rules from GASLIGHT, Battles, Leviathans, and To Be Continued, plus the new
aerial rules. We'll also include redesigned record sheets and slightly modified
vehicle hit tables that have different effects for walkers than ground vehicles,
for instance.

Too late.
I had thought about getting GASLIGHT rules but then I seen there was going to be a new version coming out, to far in the future for me though. Din't want to buy the old ones just to have to update them next year.
So I went with your recommendation and have ordered a set of Valour and Flesh and Steel. I am currently waiting on the postie to deliver.

I play Gaslight and I have also just bought Valour Steel and Flesh.
VSF seems to be similar on a quick first read. VSF has lots of good fluff to set up their version of Martian VSF. Gaslight leaves it up to you. I currently play Gaslight.  I think we will end up with our own house rules where we will pinch things we like from each rules set. I am also looking to get the Soldiers Companion SPACE 1889 miniature rules to see what they are like.

It is our club open day tomorrow and I am running a Martian VSF demo game.

Cheers
Fuzzy.

Nothing wrong with V&S&F, I think they are very similar in many respects to GASLIGHT. So hopefully you won't be disappointed.

I have just realised that I never checked my home email address after I placed the order, for my order confirmation. I will check it tonight. But it never said anything on their web site about being out of stock.
Their comms “may not” be bad but mine might be!
I will let you know.

I speak about their comms from personnal experience. It's nothing you've said that has formed that opinion. I hope they are in stock though and your order confirmation has been sent.

Greetings

one thing which intrigues me.. since discovering minis -oh six years ago I think, I stumble periodically over GASLIGHT or references to G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. Are these the same rules? What makes these so "special" (if I might say)? Or are they just a bunch of rules as known for their period as TSATF is for colonial Africa?
Just curious you know

Jo

GASLIGHT are their own set of rules developed by chris Palmer and John "Buck" Sardu. They are a set of simple but effective of playing games in the VSF time of things. So you may have something that Jules Verne dreamed up one day on the field to the "what if" SPACE 1899 actually happened. You are only limited by your imagination. There are a few Yahoo Groups for the game.

This below link here shows what is available in the current list of purchases from Brigade Games.

In my opinion GASLIGHT is fun for all. Always have a blast playing it whether you use the VSF factor or not. In the end i would say join up on the Yahoo Groups and go from there. If you like a fun game with some VSF thrown in then you will like GASLIGHT.  :-)
