Title: Some painted Kryomek and Nexus troops
Post by: steders on July 23, 2020, 11:25:08 AM
I remember buying the rule book from the Virgin megastore in Nottingham in the early 90s. I picked up loads of the miniatures at the same time. They have languished in half bothered paint schemes, been stripped a couple of times but I thought its time to try and get at least one or two done
Kryomek edit: The paint scheme is based on the one used by bagpuss for his kryomek.

Decided to try and get the rest done
Kryomek (and some tyranids)

Love Kryomek :-*

Some of the best wargame fluff ever IHMO! Minis not bad, and some are real gems, yes Cyclos I am looking at you (just a little small nowadays  :() and the Talos units. Striders are ace to. Rest can range from good to hit and miss.

Rules, not so much, have tried playing it again recently during lockdown. It was ok but my age-addled brain doesn't enjoy the column shift mechanic much anymore lol and I started with Star Fleet Battles back in the 80s with the 3 triple-binders for the rules :o

Yours are fab by the way, I have been using a mixed force of Kryomek and Aliens as Tyranids for 40K for many a year. But mine are a boring black/blue/silver gloss colour to fit the Aliens. Yours are ace!

For the Nexus Triple-Alliance and mankind ;)

Keep up the good work

Glen

Such great forces!! I've got some old Kryomek resin hover tanks that need attention some day. A classic line definitely worth another look.

Just in case this awesome display of Kryomek/Nexus miniatures gets people all nostalgic for their own armies... here's a link so you can find the miniatures for yourself :) :

Excellent painting and a great collection.

There were (are) some real gems in the Kryomek range.  I agree with Storm Wolf on the Cyclos. I have 20 or so them painted in a box somewhere (part of the painted mountain rather than the normal unpainted pile).

I have attached an old photo of one of my Striders (but alas with a Warzone figure for company).  I had altered the legs a little for a more active pose and added some additional weapons from the bits box.  They still look good although my drab paint job could do with an update.

Totally agree on the fluff. Its really well thought out.
The rules feel very clunky, I had a try with them recently as well. So many better ways to do it.
I personally believe that one of the reasons Kryomek failed to get a larger audience is because the figures that should have been the stars of the show (the colonial marines) were so poor. The SWAT are great, the cyclos are great, the kryomek are not bad but the marines are very average. With the buzz still around from Aliens if they had produced some cracking 'not' colonial marines I think they would have done better.

Thanks for the feedback. They are all boxed up again. probably not going to see the light for another 10 years!

Great! And please let me add to the praise: for its time Kryomek was awesome, and the models were the better Tyranids at their time.
