There are multiple miniatures of horsemen and women riding on horse, sadly there seems to be a lack of figures depicting sidesaddle.
I know of:
- a Warhammer Fantasy female mage (seen it second hand in my local hobby shop)
- Tam Lin by Darksword Miniatures.
- Minden Miniatures has some ladies ridding sidesaddle
- Hinterland Miniatures has a couple victorian princess like this and some ladies riding cammels
- Outpost Wargames has Dragoon Officer's Wife mounted Side-Saddle
Is this everything or are there other ladies or gents in finery ridding in this fashion?
I would be especially interested in elaborate medieval costumes.

There are a few different versions of Lady Godiva riding side saddle out there....but you would need to add your own clothing!
-
Lamming had a medieval lady riding sidesaddle. Mind: being many years old it is "real" 25mm. East Riding now seems to sell them: https://shop.eastridingminiatures.co.uk/medieval-ranges-255-c.asp
although I cannot see pictures. So perhaps mail them ?

Ah! I had the same trouble a while ago, it's *remarkably* difficult to find any side-saddle figures!
Leon here at LAF has a side-saddle noblewoman (and some other really good sculpts too!) :

There's also the Perry Miniatures Margaret of Anjou:

Airfix used to do a Robin Hood range including a female riding side saddle.

Thanks for the replies! Those are some interesting figures.
It is surprising how little this riding style is represented. I would have assumed that the generic medieval princess from fairytales would be easy to find.
I think I found another lady. Not to sure with this one, needed to look at the dioramas it is in to decided that it was Side-Saddle:

Here's Leon's figure coloured in (badly by me) :)

I think Thunderbolt Mountain miniatures Arthurian range had Medieval style ladies riding in such a fashion. Good luck finding any - which is a real pity as they were lovely minis. See: http://www.deartonyblair.co.uk/2017/11/thunderbolt-mountain-miniatures-closing.html

Not medieval but Hinterland has several ladies in 19th dress riding sidesaddle. Some of them might be fodder for conversion:

Mirliton Miniatures have at least two medieval ladies on horseback.
This one I own ( alas it is sadly still unpainted):

This one also appears to have the same pose:

Lol
My paint jobs!
Mirliton which are quite good, Old glory does one figure and so does GW
Cheers

Not a very good picture but Old Glory do a Medieval lady riding side saddle in their WotR personalities set

Gamzone Miniatures has this lady ...

Imho this is a quite nice model - iirc a head swap could be done if you are after some more elaborate headress ...

The side saddle wasn't very common in the Middle Ages, and most likely wasn't known earlier in the period. The Medieval version also couldn't be controlled by the rider.

Does it really matter how historically correct it is when he wants just such a miniature?

Suren Miniatures used to have two beautifilul eighteenth century ladies in riding Gear ... 30 mm. Philippe

It is always a joy to find obscure miniature makers or some ancient sculpts when asking other people if they know a certain type figure.
Thanks for the replies everyone, you showed me some nice figures.

But it existed, it's not like I am planning on making an army of side saddle riders. Thought now that I think about, that would be an amusing unit.

1256 is the first written evidence of a side saddle, very common by the end of the 14th, it’s in lots of art and tapestries by then.

Princesses on parade perhaps? lol Could be a great baggage unit for a meeting engagement.

Perry Miniatures do a very nice Margaret of Anjou fig that’s easy and fun to paint.
-
I seem to think that Foundry used to do a male civilian riding side-saddle in both their ECW and their Marlburian ranges. I haven't seen them for ages, so it may be that they're no longer made.
-
Actually, Colonel Bill has two peasant women riding side-saddle in his seventeenth century range. One is riding behind a male rider.
-
Bad Squiddo has an Elizabeth I (Tilbury speech era) riding side-saddle.
The Airfix figure was Maid Marion, as I recall.
-
I have nothing to offer the search, but when I saw Tam Lin mentioned as a female riding side-saddle, I had to go and look. Tam Lin in the old songs is a male knight, cursed by the fairy queen and saved by Janet.
