Title: Help finding models for fantasy Picts
Post by: Blasphemia Blackwood on 12 September 2020, 01:37:31 PM
I'm working on some fantasy barbarians inspired by old illustrations of Picts:

I would like to add some ladies in the mix as well. Like so:

(https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/52a39060e4b0b9264e019ad5/1394068246428-SIPBE6TVTD0E0M03GQGZ/ke17ZwdGBToddI8pDm48kG76tgsPBdbP4BjEcFy6_AVZw-zPPgdn4jUwVcJE1ZvWEtT5uBSRWt4vQZAgTJucoTqqXjS3CfNDSuuf31e0tVElDz4HhIB38i3LADT5tCgJiSxwip21Ntl8S1BD3fBZz-K3Gor3ZYLWM4R9RYKSMGo/blue-woad-pictish-woman-tattoos.jpg?format=300w)

I'm looking for suggestions of female models that:
a) are nude or nearly so
b) are NOT in seductive/pinup poses
c) fit with Victrix/Perry historicals scale-wise and proportion-wise

They can be unarmed, I can add weapons myself.

Thanks!

I have these "Generic Light Infantry skirmishers" in my Tekumel range, as painted by Tony Yates:

Great work on the Picts, BTW! When saw the title my first assumption was that they would be NA Indian as per Conan comics!  :)

Those Picts are astonishing! I know those illustrations well, and you've absolutely captured them - bravo!

They're a bit overdressed, but I wonder if some of the Lucid Eye Amazons might give you a starting point (a kilt might not be the worst thing on a Pict!). And with your conversion skills, you'd doubtless be able to make use of just the torsos if need be. There are at least three sets, along these lines:

Cool, I love how those first few figures came out!

If you are ready for some minor conversions, Eureka Miniatures has a whole range of amazons in various states of undress.  Their equipment tends towards Greek hoplons and Thracian peltast styles, but those should be easily changed.  They may be a bit small, though.

There are one or two naked women in the Alternative Armies Erin series of fantasy figures for ancient Celtic myths, but you need to dig through the lists to find them, like the lady on the right in the 'ER01 Milesian Warriors' pack

I'd also follow mr ed's suggestion of the Wargames Foundry elf nymphs.

Funny enough, Northstar Fantasy Celts are on a crazy cheap offer right now, about £1 per model -

https://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=13397

If they look familiar, they're the sculpts for a 2000AD Slaine range that never got off the ground back in ... the 90's was it? I forget who originally did them - Harlequin or Alternative Armies or someone - but the licence has done the rounds because they're just too damn nice to be lost to the world.

c) fit with Victrix/Perry historicals scale-wise and proportion-wise

I don't know if they fit proportion-wise with the Victrix/Perry miniatures, but I can suggest you the female berserkers from Brother Vinni (http://www.brother-vinni.com/shop.htm#!/Female-Berserkers/p/126940327/category=14147797) (you can also buy them separately if you don't want the whole group). They are 28mm scale. They are naked or half naked and certainly not in a seductive pose.
