Title: A Princess of Mars
Post by: Dining Room Battles on 22 September 2020, 08:03:46 PM
"She was indeed the proud daughter of a thousand jeddaks, every inch of her dear, precious little body; so small, so frail beside the towering warriors around her, but in her majesty dwarfing them into insignificance; she was the mightiest figure among them and I verily believe that they felt it"

Great figure from Tin Man. I got the (probably wrong) impression from the photo of the unpainted figure that there might be a significant mold line across one shoulder. How was she to paint?

Easy to paint once I got the right mix of red and light brown for the skin color. I also added the sword.

Is Tin Man minis no longer trading?! The link to their site doesn't seem to be up?  :'(

I would love to do some John Carter games, but I find miniatures an issue. I love the Tin Man miniatures, but the cost of getting a lot from 5he States is prohibitive. The Bronze Age figures aren’t quite modest enough. I quite like the Modiphius figures, but they are about 32mm. That also means they wouldn’t mix with the other ranges. In all cases, large monsters are expensive. I long for something that equates to these ranges in 15/20mm. Partly this is because I have the idea of doing some boarding actions between flyers. Peter Pig and Martian Empires Figures would be the only options (maybe a smattering from Ral Partha). Nothing available in that scale is “floating my flyer” for characterisation.

Indeed

Not modest enough? You must not have found the "Adult" section of the Tin Man catalog yet... true to the ERB books I believe they are. ;)

I did, but there are suitable alternatives. Beautiful figures from Tin Man. I particularly like the Thoats. If I had lots of cash to make any one miniatures line I wanted it would be to Barsoom I would look for inspiration. Alas, i do not.

Yes, if one wants a family friendly game, or a participation game to present at a convention, one must use some of the less exciting sculptures available for the period.

This is perhaps an American thing? I demo-ed Barsoom with the Bronze Age minis at several coventions and while especially 12 year olds found the nudity hilariously funny (I remember being that age....) no one was troubled by it.

Probably more personnel preference. I really don’t want topless buxom lasses running around in my games even though ERB wrote it that way.
