Title: Modular Buildings Magneto-Style

Hi,

since i'm always short on storage capacity i thought about a way to create modular modern/future buildings which can be stored in parts and can be put together easy and sturdy.

The solution came in the form of neodym magnets. The ones i use for the buildings are 6mm in diameter, 1mm high and each one can hold about 1.9 kilograms.

I glued the magnets in a surrounding layer of 1mm MDF-Board on the one part of the building and on the corresponnding other part a L-shape steel profile.

The walls of the buildings are made of 10mm foamboard and the ceiling from 3mm wood.

Because the ceilings tend to fall down i decided to use the magnet idea on them as well.

The magnets work quite perfect after the bulidings are assembled you can lift them without falling apart.

very clever... those magnets freak me out though... my place is too small to have them on one side of the room and my computer on the other...  lol

Very well done.

I have a dozen space map sections that a friend created for Star Warriors a couple of years ago using this idea.  A little bit of ingenuity like this goes a long way in these projects.

You did a fantastic job here.  I might have to try it out :)

Yes, Neodyms are great stuff. But as they're so strong, one must be careful to prevent damage to the model, when they snap together. The impact might damage the model/paint. Nevertheless, a good way of using them  :)
