Title: Contacting the Society of Ancients?
Post by: Sir Barnaby Hammond-Rye on 13 October 2020, 02:57:43 PM
I just renewed my SOA membership and had a few questions about the process. So I emailed the "membership" email as listed on PayPal.

Unfortunately it bounced:

"A message was blocked by the system because we don't trust the sender."

So, how do I contact them, if they are going to block my email? And why would the system block the email anyway?

Maybe the membership director is also on LAF?

Here is the message I sent:

Good Morning,

My name is (...) and I just signed up for the SOA after being away for several years. (I was a member around 2012-2013 or so, and subscribed for a number of years, but not sure about how many.) I have a couple of questions regarding the sign-up process:P

1) I put my billing address as my house. Will this be the delivery address? The address in PayPal is my post office box, which is preferred. Not sure now which you will have or use.

2) My preferred postal address is

(...)

3) When doing the PayPal check-out there was a tick box "Subscribe". I didn't understand what that was about; was it related to some PayPal feature or to Slingshot magazine? I assumed Slingshot came with the membership, and so by joining I was "subscribing". Is this not the case?

4) Lastly, re. back issues. I take it the only ones available are those listed on the site? I saw a CD and then a list of maybe 5 or 6 magazines, only a couple described fully. I wasn't sure if that was merely the current subscription year, or a total list of back issues. I have been reading the issues I own from my previous subscription and am impressed [again] by the high quality of the publication!

Best Regards,

(...)

EDIT: I discovered I can use the contact link on the site. At least, I think it might work!

Second Edit: Discovered I was looking in the wrong place for back issues. Ordered some.  :)

Glad you got it sorted mate, but you may not want to put your postal address up on a public forum....

That. It's a bit of a Little Bobby Tables moment. FTFY, Sir Barnaby.
