Could anyone recommend an ultra matte varnish, perhaps similar to AK Interactive's?

I use the Daler Rowney Acrylic mediums soluble Matt varnish. I've always had good results with it but for metallic or shiny leather for example it's worth coating seperately with a satin because it does a really good job on flattening things. And use a couple of thin coats as sometimes in creases and such it gathers and dries frosty white. Hope that helps

I will second Jonny Boy’s choice of DR Acrylic mediums soluble Matt varnish.
No need to decant any of the liquid, just give it a good shake, do a test piece, keep shaking and apply straight from the bottle.
I do 3 foot figures or 1 mounted figure then recap and give the varnish a quick 5 second shake to make sure it does not separate.
Wash brush with dish soap and back to painting more figures.

For brush on matt varnish, I use Winsor & Newton Galeria Matt Varnish (https://www.amazon.com/Winsor-Newton-Galeria-Acrylic-Varnish/dp/B001HJLB1A). It's a great product, drying really matt indeed. A good trick of the trade I learned here on the LAF though, is storing the bottle upside down, so you get the 'mattest' possible product out of the bottle immediately when opening it.

I was lucky to have been able to order a bunch of the small cans before more stringent shipping regulations came into effect, and I've been using mine very sparingly, as I suspect it will be nigh on impossible to have them shipped again, and there is no local (or regional for that matter) store stocking it.
For what it's worth though; I still think it's the best matt varnish out there...

If you have an airbrush, I strongly advise Vallejo Premium matte varnish. Ultra flat finish, and very, very sturdy.

Windsor and Newton Professional is by far the best I’ve used. It’s a spray.

On a tip from Paul@Empress, I decided to give Pebeo Matt Picture Varnish in a spray a try, and I love this stuff. Dries the flattest of any varnish I've ever used.

Windsor and Newton Professional is readily available for me and very matt. My last new Dullcote cans were satin so I don't use testors anymore. For brush on (or airbrush) I use Winsor & Newton Galeria with a touch of Tamiya flat base.
