Title: Any tutorials for basing trees??
Post by: Necroplayer on 11 December 2020, 10:27:02 PM
I am looking for any tutorials (or articles) on the basing of 28mm gaming trees. I have heard of different kinds of flocks and herbs being used but cant find any examples. Any recommendations?

I used actual dead leaves and put them through a blender to get forest floor ground cover. It's a good idea to bake natural materials like that at 80 degrees plus (Celsius) for about half an hour, to kill off any little mites or other microorganisms that might be living in them.

The massive trees that I'd made a few years ago had a few layers of things. Main basing was a sand layer before painting to make the earth. Then I added a fine flock for the majority of it and topped that off with green tea (unused) that was placed where it looked like leaves would pile up.

Another useful item for forest bases is bark mulch from a garden centre run through an old coffee grinder to whatever degree you like.

The mulch idea is good too! I may do a combination of techniques and see what happens.

Fitz, slightly different question, in the photo of the miniatures, do you know the name of company that makes the female miniature with the staff  by chance. Thanks if you advance if you are able to remember it and post it here.

I wrote an extensive blog article about trees in general, including basing them:

Maybe it is of interest.

Lately I am using ground Rooibos tea to depict fall leaf scatter interspersed with MiniNatur leaves.
