Title: 15mm Viking army
Post by: Pictors Studio on 15 December 2020, 04:43:05 PM
Here are some Viking I just finished.  15mm, mostly Legio Heroica and Baueda figures.

Some of the Legio Heroica figures had shields and spears that had to be glued on.  I wasn't a huge fan of that.  A couple of them broke during the painting process and had to be repaired.  They are nicely sculpted figures but I'd probably stay away from them in the future for that reason.  Undoubtedly during play a spear or two will come off here and there.

I very much liked the Baueda figures.  There was a huge variety of poses it seemed like.

This summer was the first time I painted any vikings in a few years.  I think the last time I did any was 2015.  It was fun doing them again but coming up with some of the shield designs to fit on 15mm figures got challenging after the first few sets.  I don't think there are any exact repeats although I bet some are very similar.

It certainly is a lot easier doing the designs on 28mm figures as you can fit quite a bit more detail in, but then again perhaps my eyes aren't what they used to be when I was in my 20s.

They had a pack of heroes and one of the guys is on a shield.  I'm not sure how best to base those so they are still just on their painting stick for now.

You could always have used Little Big Man Studio transfers for the shields. They them for Legio Heroica.

Great stuff. I used to make the comment that real men paint their shields - no matter how bad they turn out.  :o

Yours are really good so don't need that cynical comment at all. :)

Have you looked at the Forged in Battle Vikings in 15mm? Tons of variety and nice castings.

How is my comment 'cynical'? The shield painting is clearly fantastic. My point was merely that if the OP found it 'challenging' and presumably time consuming, then there was another option available which the OP may not have known about.

I think you're responding to an attack that wasn't actually there. He meant his own customary cynicism.

Vikings always respond to an attack!
