First it was the unhelpful button, though I could understand why, but it was an overreaction.
Earlier today, I went on Amazon to check for product reviews on scales and the comments section under each review was missing. Thought it had to do with the adblocking extensions on Chrome and Firefox, but after a Google search, I found the answer: No more commenting on customer reviews! (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/forums/t/no-more-commenting-on-customer-reviews/751365)
Being old fashioned, I browse Amazon on a desktop and the comments section was extremely useful when asking for clarification on some reviews of products. Helpful responses, like the one I received on The Byzantine Republic (https://www.amazon.com/Byzantine-Republic-People-Power-Rome/dp/0674365402) from a reviewer, is why I went and purchased a copy and Romanland: Ethnicity and Empire in Byzantium (https://www.amazon.com/Romanland-Ethnicity-Byzantium-Anthony-Kaldellis/dp/0674986512/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&qid=1608778953&refinements=p_27%3AAnthony+Kaldellis&s=books&sr=1-1&text=Anthony+Kaldellis).

I just checked, and the comment section is still alive and well. Strange they would tell you that its been removed.

There have been news articles about it so it is a real issue

So I checked again in Chrome and it does show up, but I have the same extensions installed: Privacy Badger, Avast Online, uBlock Origin and Malwarebytes Browser Guard.

It's a solution looking for a problem...

Could be the the ability to comment is being removed, but existing comments will remain.

I don't know what's going on with Firefox, but on Chrome, I could still post new comments. If the ability is eventually removed, like what was done with the unhelpful button, existing comments will disappear. Amazon is justified in the removal, because they've gone out of their way to make the comments sections as useless as possible:
1) No longer is a number next to the comment icon, indicating a discussion.
2) No longer are reviewers and comment posters notified of postings.
The hit or miss ask questions section is allowed to stay. I say hit or miss, as whenever I ask a question, I'm messaged with responses saying "I no longer have it" or "I don't have it" or a response indicting someone's irritated or they don't understand the clearly phrased question. ::)

I have just been able to post a new review via chrome; now to look if comments are enabled or can be added to.

Maybe some sellers request the comments section be removed. Or perhaps some items have been spammed with comments Amazon has deemed fake, so the comments section is removed.

Comments are non longer visible on Chrome... >:(
The only thing left is the "helpful" and "report abuse" options. HMS Warspite is relieved... ::)
