Today I would like to show you a sneak preview of an 28mm miniature range that I am developing. Its theme is the Greek War of Independence 1821-1830 against the Ottoman empire. The miniature on horseback is Kolokotronis who was the commander in chief of the Greek Revolutionary forces. The miniatures on foot can be used as Greek or Albanian or even Bashi-bazouk irregulars. The miniatures are designed for skirmish games and they can be used as Greeks versus Ottomans or as irregulars of the Ottoman army of Napoleonic and post Napoleonic era. There are future plans for Turkish foot irregulars and cavalry. At this point the miniatures are on the pre casting prototype stage. They are sculpted by the talented Mr. Stavros Zouliatis. https://old-mans-creations.mozello.com/ (https://old-mans-creations.mozello.com/)

Gorgeous sculpts just begging to be painted. Best of luck with the project, I look forward to seeing more
-
Kalos kai agathos!
-
They would certainly tempt me into doing a skirmish
game of the war. Lovely castings. I will keep an eye on this.
-
I can't see the images. Just me? ::)
-
I can't see the images. Just me? ::)
I am using Google photos as image host . And it seems that I can see them when I am connected wit my google account . Maybe I will have to change image host.
-
Can't see either.
I've seen them on FB and they are with sharing!
-
Hello I have added two of the images as attachments to resolve the visibility issue.
-
I can see them now - perfect!
-
Great looking figures. Maybe a Lord Byron addition?
-
I am thinking to do some of the heroes and the Phillelines as miniatures, and lord Byron is one of the possibilities. But to be honest I am impressed from another British man , Scottish to be exact ,that fought on the Greek war of Independence. Colonel Thomas Gordon , that he served on the Scots Greys regiment during Napoleonic wars. From the reference painting that I have from the time it seems that he was wearing the uniform in Greece . I thing a Scots Grey fighting against the Ottomans is a very cool think to envision.
-
Interesting project, the figures look great, I will be following your progress with great interest. :)
-
as written above, the sculpts are looking very good! Will follow this with interest.
-
Also interested in this the sculpts do look great
-
Hello I have added two of the images as attachments to resolve the visibility issue.
Thanks. I can see them now. :)
Beautiful figures. :o

I could be tempted to another Sharp Practise force/s, once my cashflow is sorted. I've seen this gamed in 15mm at the VMS show a few years back, and it is a very attractive period.
-
Lovely sculpts. If they match size wise with the Paul Hicks sculpted Brigade Games range, I reckon you should get quite a bit if custom. I’ll happily buy some to use as Albanians.

I was also thinking of them as miniatures that they can be used with Sharp Practice . Have you witnessed the Greek rule set of Liberty or Death on VMS or it was another system ? If you have any photos or articles of this event I would be interested.

I will visit my caster next week, and I will try to provide some comparison pictures with Brigade games , Perrys and Steve Barber miniatures with relative theme from my collection.

Very cool sculpts. I am looking forward to seeing this project continue to develop.

Yes that could be an interesting pulp scenario. Vampires are a Balkan myth and you can find legends of them almost on all the Balkan countries. Even in Greece there are legends of vampires and there are names of places that are related with that . There is a small island on Cyclades called βρουκολακονήσι literally vampires island, close to Santorini if I remember correctly, The same name is used for a beach in Lemnos island.
-
Ah the vrykolakas! Shades of Boris Karloff and Isle of the Dead.
-
Dramalı Mahmud Pasha is trying to escape from the ambush in the Dervenakia with a mace or a sword at hand . Old Man’s Creations presents the second miniature of the Ottomans’ range for the Greek War of Independence. Sculpted as usual from the talented mr. Stavros Zouliatis the miniature will be available soon for pre order on the eshop of the company.
Eshop link : https://old-mans-creations.mozello.com/
-
I'd do Dramali with the mace myself. It would just look so different in a force of this time period.

That was my original choice , but I am going to include the sword arm option on the pack. Actually maces were carried around at the time from Generals or Pashas on the Ottoman empire and on the Balkans. It was a sign of office something like a marshal's baton.
-
Such lovely figures. Very nice, can't wait to see more.

Painted example of Kolokotronis.
pre orders still available until 15th of March. https://old-mans-creations.mozello.com/ (https://old-mans-creations.mozello.com/)

The empire strikes back, not the one from the known space opera franchise. The first sculpts of Ottoman empire irregular troops are here. Additional weapons options will be include on these two packs that are going to be OTT003 and OTT004 . Release date first half of May. Pre orders will start after 10th of April. Sculpted by mr Stavros Zouliatis as usual.

These are indeed superb. Some of the best sculpts I have seen in years and loaded with character.
Can we expect any later Ottoman regular types like these?

Thanks for your kind words. The current plan doesn't include any Ottoman regulars because they actual didn't take part in almost any battle of the Greek War of Independence. But the plan for the time being includes some Egyptian regulars that took part on the Ibrahim's invasion in Peloponnese. Like the ones on the attached picture.

Some more Ottoman irregulars sculpts by mr. S. Zouliatis. Next week all the Ottoman irregulars will be available for pre order.

Thank you for your kind words . Stavros is doing an extraordinary sculpting job. You have to trademark the term "Spanakopita Western" or "Eastern" to be exact. As I have said before on a Facebook group, Lord Byron was closer to the Man who would be King , if he didn't die during the GWI he would probably had become the first King of Greece.
-
This is one of those ranges that I never thought I need lol
-
Great looking figures, world class sculptor.

Sneak Preview GWI008 , GWI009 Maniates /Islanders
New packs sculpting have finished from mr. Stavros Zouliatis. Th new miniatures with removable heads can be used either as Maniates or Greek Islanders , they were dressed pretty similarly.
Ferocious fighters and pirates the Maniates were coming from Mani Lakonia on the region of ancient Sparta . As for the Greek islanders they were extraordinary seamen and pirates as well, a great number of them served as crew members on the Ottoman fleet until the start of the Greek revolution in 1821. An additional pack with additional heads is being sculpted right now, that in addition with the extra weapons pack will help you to customize even more these miniatures.

New miniatures sculpts from the hands of mr,. Zouliatis, Laskarina Bouboulina a famous Greek Islanders captain and additional heads to convert the Maniates/Islanders miniatures from the previous post.

What's up next for the Ottomans; more irregulars? African infantry?

What's up next for the Ottomans; more irregulars? African infantry?
The current plan is to do Egyptian Regular infantry, they can be used for the Greek War of Independence and the Ottoman - Egyptian wars of the 1830s. For the future I will consider to do some Ottoman Cavalry and/or Egyptian cavalry. I am attaching a reference painting of the Egyptian Regulars of the 1820s-1830s.

Yes I have seen this website and it is a great source of information . My problem though is that my focus is the Greek War of Independence period roughly 1821-1830. During that time there were no regular Ottoman units, they were destroyed after a Janissaries coup at 1806(if I remember the date correctly , it can be 1808). The first units of the second attempt of an Ottoman Regular army started to be formed on 1826 after the purge of the Janissaries from the Sultan. These units didn't not participate on battles with the Greeks , I think there is only one exception around 1828-1830. The Ottomans for these period used mostly Albanian Mercenaries and Ottoman Levies located in Greece. The only regular units that took part on this conflict were the French trained Egyptian regulars that arrived to support the Ottoman and recapture the liberated part of Greece.
I will have to thank reminding the site though because I found some plates for the Egyptian cavalry that I was looking for.
